“The ideas will always matter.” A standout moment from digital art pioneer @roberthodgin.bsky.social, in conversation with Pablo Honey at last night’s dev/ai/nyc. Here are a few favorite snaps from their conversation on art in the age of AI. 🗽

Two days until the next dev/ai/nyc! 🍎 Join us at our NoHo space on Thursday, May 21 for a fireside chat from digital artist and Rare Volume co-founder @roberthodgin.bsky.social and our Creative Director Pablo Honey. They’ll explore design and expression in the age of AI. Don’t miss it!

Can't wait! Should be a fun, occasionally depressing, dystopian hoot. Looking forward to the chat!

It’s about that time for the next dev/ai/nyc! 🗽 Join us at our NoHo Space next Thursday to explore the intersection of machine intelligence and human expression with @roberthodgin.bsky.social, generative art pioneer, and Pablo Honey, Creative Director at Automattic.

Dust. Exploring subtle installation experiences. Always loved seeing dust motes floating in sun beams so I decided to try and reproduce that experience in TouchDesigner using Josef Pelz's T3D (Texture 3D operators) as well as PCR (Point Cloud Rendering) for GLSL bokeh effects.

Real-time prototype of my "Infinite Frames" Houdini setup. Ever since I first made it, I wanted to see it run at interactive framerates. #TouchDesigner makes it really easy to do initial prototyping and look-dev for interactive projects we will build out in Cinder C++.

* Runs at 60fps * Subdivision logic is handled in Python * Webcam input is used as a super subtle glass reflection * Using MidJourney AI images for the content because of convenience only, this is not an attempt to showcase gen AI outputs. I needed 256 images that were thematically related.

Magnetosphere 2.0 dev/design update. 60fps, 3440x1440 output (resized for social posts), 1,000,000+ particles, audio reactive. #touchdesigner #raye #audioreactive #generative #flocking Audio: RAYE - "WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!"

If you’ve followed me on other platforms ( 🤢 ) you might know I’ve spent the last few years doing computational cinema / edit understanding. I’m happy to say we’ve got the first public live narrative search engine for film and tv! It’s early days. But check it out! ozu.ai

Reminder to creatives (or anyone, really): If someone reaches out because they want to interview you, and they are asking you to download a specific app to conduct the interview, it is probably a scam. I have had 3 attempts since January 2025. Do your research and check credentials.

In total, over 400 prints were sold over 4 runs. The physical prints were a challenge to make cost effective, since print shops aren't too keen on offering discounts for 1-of-1 print series, and each print I sold was unique. Luckily, my friends at @nervo.us were able to help me out.

Some BTS from the moss lantern series. The toro forms adhered to the basic structure for this style of lantern, but then I exaggerated some of the features to make them feel a bit more otherworldly.

Moss R&D. This started as an excuse to learn more about running Houdini from the command line. I am able to provide a string as an input parameter, and the Houdini project will create the 3D letters and drop them onto the ground and let them settle, then the moss sim kicks in and weatherizes them.

A more recent modification of this setup uses procedurally generated Japanese tōrō lanterns as the base for the moss growth. The moss pays attention to surface orientation, shade, cracks, and produces a wetmap to help with the stone wear and tear.
