For this week's #FridayFrills, here is a 1955 Balenciaga ball gown. Balenciaga does a nod towards the bustle, putting the fullness in back, a typical Balenciaga move as he prefered dresses to have contrast between the front and back. @NGVMelbourne #fashionhistory

#Ootd is this 1922 blue beaded and sequined dress. The gorgeous scalloped edges resemble fish scales- iridescent and gorgeous. It was said to have been worn at the Preston Guild Ball- the oldest festival in England, held every 20 years in Preston, Lancashire. #Fashionhistory

#Ootd is this 1948 dress. I may look like Dior, but this was made by the French Women's Tailoring Department, an atelier in Stockholm. They bought the patterns and rights to replicate haute couturier designs. This specific dress were commissioned by Irma Ulrich. #Fashionhistory

#Ootd is this 1950 wool flannel Dior suit that Elizabeth Parke Firestone wore on her trips with her husband to Europe for business. The suit is expertly tailored and corresponds to her measurements. I mean look at those curves! #Fashionhistory #FabricofAmerica #thehenryford

The Guy who is occupying the Oval Office is NOT a POTUS, he is a criminal thief who stole an election and now he is now killing our country, our reparation and our standing in the world !

For this week's #FridayFrills, #ootd is this 1947 Jaques Fath evening dress made of tulle, satin, and chiffon, making it extremely airy. Yet, the embroidered bodice is boned to provide structure. The contrast makes a gown that glides effortlessly across the floor. #Fashionhistory

I used to train law enforcement officers to spot violence before it starts. The reliable tell was never posture or hands. It was grievance… …the instant a man casts himself as the victim. He's not attacking anymore. He's “defending.” That's when it goes bad. Now…look at our president.

When you're constantly just trying to keep the lights on and put food on the table, you don't have the time or energy to fight the system. Keeping people hanging on by a thread isn't a policy failure; it's how they keep us too tired to push back.

If only there were a law that said: "Whoever makes or offers to make an expenditure to any person, either to vote or withhold his vote, or to vote for or against any candidate Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned" We could call it 18 U.S. Code § 597 - Expenditures to influence voting

In case anyone is interested, the sculpture is made from Corten Steel which develops a rust patina over time that protects it. The orange glow here is the early sun on it, about 730am this morning. 'Gan canny' in the Sunderland dialect means something like 'go carefully'.

'Gan Canny' by Ray Lonsdale, 2021 in Keel Square, Sunderland. It remembers the Vaux Brewery in the town and the 700 Sunderlanders who worked for it before its closure in 1999. I particularly like it because my great-granddad was a drayman for the Star Brewery in Cambridge.

25 years ago, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people, including 2,753 New Yorkers. As we remember that terrible day, let us also remember the first responders, office workers and strangers who ran toward danger to help each other.

Look at this loathsome repulsive creature yelling at a reporter. In addition to the fact that he’s the worst president in US history, he’s one of the worst human beings on planet earth. His supporters have a very serious defect in their character.

Dear M@GA, this is your hero, your god, your “president.” An olde, worthless, smelly piece of shit who didn’t care about 9/11 then and doesn’t care now. This is really who you look up to as a leader? He’s trash.

You have the right to live your life like this if you want, but you do not have the right to force the rest of us to do it. Women's Suffrage was for the rest of us who don't want to be a man's chattel.

Here we have another of Grace Coolidge's 1920s dresses- this one of black velvet appliques on metallic threaded lace over a metallic colored underdress. The geometric shapes are quite Art Deco although also very romantic with the velvet roses. #Fashionhistory

Any sweeping systemic change you want to make in the United States has to begin with adding seats to the Supreme Court in 2029. No major reform bill will survive the current court. No civil rights law, no anti-corruption law, no wealth tax, nothing.

Target paid its CEO $21.8M last year — 794x the median Target worker's pay of $27,506. Target has also spent $13.9B on stock buybacks since 2019, while remaining among the largest employers of Medicaid and SNAP recipients in America. This is what I mean by a rigged economy.
