Advanced robotics need to be licensed one per person, transferrable. You can have a personal robot for helping at home, work, etc. Or you can sell/rent your license to a company that wants to run more robots. After the first 8B, we'll have a better idea how to license the next 8B.
Oh, they did it. docs.typesafe.ai/images I need to play with this. OSS/local versions still welcome.
I need jev with image input. If some startup launched it today, one of you would clone it by tomorrow. Can we just skip that first part?
Oh, this reminds me. I expect CUDA to get the augmented reverse engineering treatment soon. Slightly harder when SW+HW are so tightly coupled, but this has been the half-decade of slightly-harder tasks falling every 6 months.
As long as CUDA is tied to Nvidia, AMD can never be a full replacement outside of gaming. Also as long as both companies hold CEOs from the same family we will never truly see them compete.
This whole thread, except I do actually think the labs should be regulated similar to nuclear. This would have been easier before anyone with $10k of compute could run glm locally, but the second best time is now. I think the median outcome is wildly positive. But not every outcome.
There is no amount of purported good I can do that would allow me to risk a 10% chance of all humanity dying off as part of a private enterprise
I bet we see sharded-mixtures-of-experts soon. Each stays loaded in memory on some device, and answers when it's called. Maybe instanced according to how often they're called, with multiple heads. Instances could be fine-tuned to balance taking similar tasks while not being completely redundant.
small models will soon be able to self-replicate Anthropic finds that 30B models can currently do most of the tasks required, but not end-to-end. they think models as small as 9B (9-18 GB) may be able to do it on edge hardware, like IoT devices, within months www.anthropic.com/research/sel...
I just noticed the Hutter prize has some new winning entries. Must be backdated, since I made an attempt in August but the 109 target was still listed. prize.hutter1.net

Remember the 2016 "Russian bot farms"? Given how trivial this would be in 2026, and the "nation-state tech is a decade ahead of the private sector" hypothesis, are there any new explanations?
I think jev being this cheap is a preview of what's to come. What could you do with today's frontier models if the monthly bill looked like this?
tfw you've used millions of tokens on utterly frivolous jev! requests, you've deployed little jev! apps to production, you've become disillusioned by the technology, then re-energized by the potential and you've used exactly $0.1028 of your $5 free starting credit.

Begs the question: what's a but-for?
Here's a automated forecasting system to estimate catastrophic risk from some major experts on forecasting. The models predicts the chance of an AI-generated mass catastrophe as 0.47% by 2030 (with a 1.1% chance of a catastrophe by 2030 with any cause). airo.forecastingresearch.org
I've said that I check in on coding improvements every 3-6 months. But so much has happened in the last week. Twice I've gone to reference "old" posts if mine, and they were both less than a month old. The singularity isn't a moment, it's just the curve of the exponential crossing your sightline.
genuinely, if you're not re-evaluating your position on AI at least once every 1-2 months and re-evaluating how it performs for the types of tasks important to you, then you are not actually challenging your priors. i know this is crazy! but thats how fast things are moving right now.
On further reflection, there's *probably* no suffering happening here, because nothing in the connectome is advancing state in the typical way. But other people are running this in other ways, and it's easy to imagine small changes that would be near the max of whatever it means for a fly to suffer.
