“I was today years old when I”— you bolt awake. Pines stretch far into the sky above the bed of grass and needles you’re lying upon. “Uk, bagg chuk?” Your cro-magnon partner nudges you to get up. There are mammoth to hunt. The ice is melting. Birds are singing choruses that feel forgotten.

BUT, as a busy dad who has 20-30 mins to play, 2016’s dumbed down approach wins for me. I’m down more than a few IQ points on any given day. So firing and forgetting is much more appealing. It’s still a great game and I’m going to finish it, and the DLC too.

This makes combat much more strategic, as you have to use every weapon your arsenal and every environmental feature to win. This asks a lot more of the player, and I have to admit that getting your ass kicked a few times, changing your approach, then winning is a really satisfying gameplay loop

Eternal is still awesome, but the Doom II-inspired Hell setting just doesn’t hit for me. The combat is also vastly different: There are tons of new moves, weapon upgrades, and power ups, and you need to use them all at particular times and in a specific order to win each arena.

Overall I like 2016 better because the Mars setting is iconic Doom imo, and I also like its approach to combat more: You have some big guns and you can blow shit up in any number of ways and still win any scenario. You can turn your brain off and just indulge in the power fantasy of being The Slayer

Actually I decided to give Doom Eternal a proper playthrough and yeah it’s awesome

Two guys used ChatGPT to help them solve a famous math problem. Before they could publish their proof, OpenAI went into their account, stole their proof, then claimed AI solved it. These people are desperate for you to think LLMs are actually sentient. They arent’t! cims.nyu.edu/~tristanb/st...

ChatGPT can’t even select all the images with traffic lights, you really think it’s going to kill us all?

“You’re not taking this seriously” Brother, we are cracking our 3rd modelo and have 12 holes to go. I’m the only one in this group with the appropriate amount of seriousness

Some more good ones: Using 30 year old clubs, not knowing my handicap, and using my 7 iron on almost every shot between the tee and the green regardless of distance to pin

I only golf for fun, and my favorite thing to do is use a highlighter-yellow golf ball, it makes my serious golf friends indescribably angry

[explaining my continued active presence on stormfront's child pornography subforum] they hate how i use the computer different

"A bunch of people would rather post on Race War Now Dot Swastika rather than Bluesky because you keep making fun of their imaginary computer friend" is a RESOUNDING endorsement for the concept of hostility.
