Trans people get called extremists for saying “hey don’t watch a wizard tv show.” Meanwhile people out here literally calling for legislative bans on our existence are propped up as feminist icons. Really just shows how those who make people uncomfortable or disrupt consumption are vilified.

Interesting the biggest objection people have to my essay on Jacob Geller is me saying he should have been open about having SA'd someone. "Should he have worn it on his neck?". Yes. Rehabilitation requires accountabilty which requires openness. People just want permission to ignore assault.

in the interest of engaging in extreme hypothetical, the woman Jacob Geller raped could walk up to me and say "hey, Jacob and I are totally cool, we're friends now, and I actually would be really sad if you didn't watch his videos" and I would still not watch his videos, because he's a rapist.

Probably THE most persuasive tool we have as Video Essayists is using ourselves as the uncomfortable example The fact that in 10 years he never made a video about this "life-changing rehabilitation," a thing many young people NEED to learn about, in my mind makes his work cowardly & self-serving 💁

I have read Gellar's response. He sounds genuine. He owned up to it completely, made no moves to defend himself save that he is trying to do better. That's more than most celebrities in his situation have done. I believe him. I wish him the best on that journey But he will be doing it without me.

I believe in restorative justice. I want that for Jacob and perhaps he was on that path (though fuck his uni for giving him the meagerest of punishments, but that’s the system working as intended). But he is owed nothing & he owes his/other victims ALL his consideration, which he did not give.
