Netflix is taking the video down from YouTube after it got 50K views in one day. I'm working to resolve this, but if you'd like to watch it in the meantime, it's still available on Nebula and my Patreon. Nebula: nebula.tv/videos/lolas... Patreon: www.patreon.com/LolaSebastia...

visited home for a few days and my Dad handed this to me and said "we meant to send this as a gag gift after your Chip Chilla video did so well but kept forgetting. merry late slash early christmas. hope it's still funny."

I talk about my stalker for the first time in this, and some of the comments are genuinely hideous. I've "hidden from channel" but no, "if they don't touch you it's not that bad" is not okay to say to anyone. Mostly because it's not true, but also because it's so minimizing.

People say that if you're not committing crimes, there's no reason to oppose "Flock Safety" cameras. They're wrong. youtu.be/h90menEcDJs

incredibly annoying how OCD has yet again become a buzzword meaning "person behaving badly." No, not every puritan has "moral OCD," and speculating on whether or not groups of strangers have OCD does nothing but further stigmatize people with OCD, already one of the most stigmatized conditions.

i kinda want to challenge the idea that media analysis is on a time limit. my essays often come out after "the moment" has passed, and i'd like to change that. but also, when creators chase trends constantly, the quality of their work declines bc sometimes topics need to be mulled over for a bit.

still working on this, thanks for your patience folks 💜

I think I have to agree with this tbh. One thing that's kept me from fully embracing Obsession is that it kind of feels like it's wavering between the horror of what Bear's done to Nikki, and embracing the dark comedy of Nikki's possessed state, to the detriment of that central message.

Lola Sebastian@lola.nebula.tv

fair but this post isn't really about the fandom, it's about the film. tbh i see Obsession as distinct from something like Fight Club or American Psycho because those have much clearer framing, themes, etc. imo, Obsession contains many more mixed messages about gender, misogyny, & sexual assault.

i have something to say about Obsession that a lot of people won't like but here goes... hypothetically, yes, this is tasteless given the premise of this film. but also, a lot about this film is also rather tasteless given its premise, imo. it also has a weird fandom of Bears for this reason.

Bloody Disgusting@bloody-disgusting.com

Nikki from OBSESSION joins FORTNITE tomorrow. You wished for this...

like yes, hypothetically she IS the victim of this circumstance and the film seems to agree... but it's also simultaneously doing a lot of "bitches be crazy." so no, i'm not surprised to see her as a character in fortnite. that makes sense.

people arriving super late to the movies honestly astounds me bc there's 30-45 minutes of trailers and other PSAs AFTER the movie is supposed to have begun. why and how are you entering after the inciting incident.

my best friend & i relate heavily to these two since childhood so i have to assume they'd have a really lovely time crashing out & being artsy together

Name two film characters who would be best friends.

Carrie reboots tend to soften/gentrify the main character so that audiences don't have to confront the possibility that as high school students they too would have laughed at the weird unattractive religious girl who doesn't know what periods are.

When Grammy-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens begins playing “Old Corn Liquor,” a traditional Black American folk tune, acclaimed Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man recognizes similarities to Chinese pentatonic music and spontaneously joins in. The joy on their faces says it all.

my latest video is now on YouTube: At the start of this year, Netflix remade Free Solo (2018) but this time, ✨LIVE✨. Alex Honnold scaled a skyscraper with no ropes, no harness, no parachute. The end result was... certainly a spectacle. youtu.be/ZkwBO8UWJls

Um okay I hate to do this but ever since I had to pay for a bunch of school and visa stuff all at once I've been struggling to cover costs and have been without my prescriptions, including my ADHD meds and HRT for months now. If anyone can help so I can get back on track, I'd appreciate it.

what do you do when you need to ask people for help but you feel immense guilt about it at all moments

interesting how like 90% of the mean comments & emails i've received this week have been various ways of saying "i think you're lying, probably for money or attention." i wonder why that could be!

it was smart of jacob geller to only post about what he did to his 50k followers on here instead of to his 1.5 million youtube subs or on his patreon. that way fewer people know about it and he limits the financial hit

I think what I resent the most is that all of us, especially the women who worked with him, were a part of his rehabilitation (at least image-wise) without us ever getting to choose if that was something we wanted to participate in. He didn't let us or his audience make a choice. How ironic.

i was assaulted in 2016 and can tell you with *certainty* that i'm not over it just because it was a decade ago. i can't speak for anyone but me but i can say that when you hop online and say "we should approach with nuance this complicated situation that happened a long time ago," survivors notice.

Replying to @ladyemily.nebula.tv

“It was a long time ago” “it was a one time thing” “it’s clear he feels remorse” “it’s not worth ruining his whole life over something like this” “what if what he did wasn’t even that bad” “people deserve second chances” these are the same defenses every victim hears about their abuser. every time

I can’t stop thinking about these (leftist, supposedly) people who in the face of horrific allegations default to “won’t someone think of the rapists” - you guys are telling on yourself.

I believe in restorative justice. I want that for Jacob and perhaps he was on that path (though fuck his uni for giving him the meagerest of punishments, but that’s the system working as intended). But he is owed nothing & he owes his/other victims ALL his consideration, which he did not give.

Lola Sebastian reposted

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

Just a reminder that people don’t always realize they were raped in the immediate aftermath. It can take hours, days, months, and even years to realize you were raped, and it doesn’t make it any less true. There are many kinds of responses, including fawning and trying to appease your rapist

We live in a society that punishes people who are assaulted. We question them, we shame them, we disbelieve them. Many survivors instinctively do that societal work for us. Survivors question themselves, they shame themselves, they don't believe their own version of events. We've trained them!

yep. it's a personal favorite and has certainly influenced why/how i make videos.

I wonder if @lola.nebula.tv watched Werner Herzog's Grizzly Man before her latest video? Because watching, I can't help thinking about that one particular documentary.
