On Bluesky you would hardly know that France is at a tipping point between peace and revolt, security crackdown and insurrection. Or that a generation of very angry young people are fighting their governments in the streets of Albania and Italy for a chance to have an education, a job and a home.

Just like Exxon knew about the impacts of climate change, the beef industry knew too. A new PLOS Climate study documents how the National Cattlemen’s Association (NCA), now NCBA, responded to evidence linking cattle methane to global warming from 1986–1996 (study 🔗 at end of 🧵)

As a Kansan myself, this is pretty remarkable. This wasn’t filmed in Overland Park or Lawrence, but in the middle of the state (Hutchinson). And Kansans are typically polite to a fault, so them booing their incumbent Senator is kinda wild to see. www.yahoo.com/news/politic...

yahoo.comWATCH: GOP Senator Gets Pelted With Boos Over Trump’s TariffsIncumbent Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) was relentlessly booed during a senatorial debate Saturday when he tried to defend President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Incredible find! That is an amazing and very human passage from the past.

Today I learned there's a website that can translate hieroglyphics from an image, and I'm amazed. Words spoken by Osiris... He says: "O you who come into being, may I drink of the water of the river. May I be among those who follow Osiris... I may drink of the cool water of the lake...

And trust in the institution will be lower as well.

We're heading into a decade of unprecedented climate disasters and one of the many unfortunate outcomes of this current civic unraveling is that no one is going to sign up to serve in the National Guard after this administration.

This is absolutely terrifying The Nino 3.4 forecast temperature anomaly mean is now at 4C, when even the biggest historical super ninos have seen less than 3C I really have no idea what this is going to bring over the next 12 months, but it will be very, very, grim

As the progressive wing of the Democratic Party continues to be ascendant, it will be interesting to see if a new vision of security is likewise articulated. Ecological security puts Earth system stress at the center, but also leans into equity and justice.

Let me be explicit. The massive heat waves we're seeing around the world more extreme and frequent due to human-caused #climatechange. And these heat waves are going to continue to worsen because of our failure to reduce carbon pollution. Just one of the many costs of #climate change.

I don’t know how anyone can read the soul-crushing news on basically every front and not conclude that we need foundational and revolutionary change in the United States. Everything must be on the table for reconsideration.

The horn of Africa is grieving because their -Their farms are no longer yielding -Advancement of desert is alarming -Our major rivers are drying -Proliferation of pest and pathogens -Development of tropical diseases. -Our crop are dieing out. Climate change is a reality.

Would love to see an ascendant outlet to pick up E&E News, which was acquired by Politico some years ago. Crazy idea: The Onion (ala it’s nonsatirical AV Club) @bencollins.bsky.social

Ugh, this is such a drag. I read this as Politico scrapping a scrupulously factual, down-the-middle news site in favor of a bunch of insider-gossip newsletters more in line with its garbage in-house style. Fewer & fewer places to get reliable information.

First time I’ve listened to Lolita Nation by Game Theory (1987) all the way through in at least ten years, probably longer. What a strange and beautiful piece of work by Scott Miller (RIP) and company.

It seems many people don’t recognize how absurdly large a billion is compared to a million. A millions seconds is 11.5 days (a long vacation). A billion seconds is 31.7 years (a career). A million dollars stacked is about as tall as the Statue of Liberty. A billion stacks past the edge of space.

AMR is amplified by many ecological stresses other than climate: biodiversity loss, microplastics, soil contamination (esp heavy metals), water scarcity, and air pollution. I consider AMR a top-tier ecological security threat, and it is intensifying in nature. www.theguardian.com/society/2026...
