Hi Bluesky people, I’m Roger, founder of Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil. I’m in prison for 5 years for resisting the carbon regimes. I worked as an organic farmer in Wales for 30 years before unprecedented rains destroyed £100,000 worth of my crops 🧵 rogerhallam.com#/portal/signup

1. THE BOTTOM LINE Liberals and reformists can cherry pick all they like to claim that we are bending the curve on emissions but actually: Global carbon emissions: 1975 – 16.0 gigatons (billion metric tons) 2000 – 25.0 gigatons (56% increase in 25 yrs) 2026 – 42.4 gigatons (70% increase in 25 yrs)

1. "ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT" Labour ministers enact the scene from the "Zone of Interest" where they pick over the possessions of the dead and the soon to be dead - referring to them with the most obscene euphemism: "environmental impact".

2. "It is understood, however, that Healey backs approving the licence, which is on hold over concerns about the project’s environmental impact." Meanwhile the British insurance industry predicts at least 2 billion dead at 2C which we are due to hit around 2036.

1. The Serbian Election: The beginning of the shift to Real Democracy The Serbian students' movement move to putting up figures from civilian society in the election points to a fundamental shift away from political parties controlling who stands in elections.

5. This oligarchical political party system and the administrative liberal/"left" class that supports it have no answers to the crises we face, as shown by the past 40 years of failure to control the power of the rich to destroy the basis of life on this planet.

6. The results of this catastrophe will only continue to boost fascistic parties which promise "order" in response to the chaos that liberal elites have falied to prevent.

4. 4. A street movement that understands that democracy based upon voting systems and political parties does not stop fascism but rather enables it, by being what it always was and always will be -

4 (cont) .. - not real democracy but a form of oligarchy that enables interests of the few (the rich) to dominate the political process.

2. However, this development to real democracy can only be consolidated by: 1. Popular assemblies choosing candidates not just the student class. 2. These assemblies setting the policies, rather than having candidates get corrupted and compromised by power.

3. Legally binding citizens' assemblies selected by sortition (randomly from the population) whose decisions will give political legitimacy to the reduction in "living standards" needed to deal with the collapsing biosphere as it in turn leads to economic collapse.

1. THIS IS NOT THE 2008 CRISIS. The delusion of post-modernism is the delusion of humanism. That the world is only the human world. That there is nothing outside our control - the sovereignty of human subjectivity. Nature is seen as merely an extension of this monstrous ego.

3. Nature is not an extension of us - it is us that are subject to Nature. 2008 was in the human realm. "Money" is a function of human psychology. We can change "money" and sort things out - till next time.

4. When the insurance industry collapses - and it will - we will not be able to fix "the problem" because the problem is Nature - physics is independent of human control. We fucked it. We cannot unfuck it. And Nature does not give a fuck.

1. These articles on global action on the "nature/enviroment/climate" are so predictable you could just get AI to churn them out. "Hey, the long term is important, so let's act together - oh, it hasn't happened - okay, let's try again."

6. This is now the only viable realist strategy - given we will pass 2C in around a decade. There is no time for anything else.

7. Those that continue to promote objectively impossible reformism at best distract from the realist revolutionary strategy, and at worst are complicit in the greatest crime an oligarchy has ever imposed upon the people.

4. 2. This will continue so long as governments use elections and voting which enable these entrenched powers to capture political processes and so overcome any long-termist action. We do not have democracy, we have oligarchy.

5. 3. If we are to prevent civilisational collapse, in so much as there is still time, only revolutions which replace voted in parliaments with sortition based citizens assemblies will result in the prioritisation of the long term.

2. "The reality is that we are not delivering on those promises." At 40 years of catastrophic failure, it's time to overcome self-serving liberal denialism and acknowledge:

3. 1. States are controlled by short-term interlocking power interests in government, business, and the media which lead to continual lying on long-term commitments that challenge entrenched power.

1. FUCKED So when everyone gets flooded in Wales where are the Welsh there going to go. England? And when the English run out of food in the supermarkets where are they going to go. Germany? You get it. You are going to be totally fucking fucked.

3. Why is this? Because the people in charge are going to have us all die? NO - idiot - because you sit on social media, soak up all this shit and then sit around waiting to die because you still think that dying is not going to hurt you IT IS GOING TO HURT YOU - A FUCKING LOT.

4. And worst of all - all those people who you don't to say it out loud to, but you love like hell - they are going to get hurt too. SO FUCKING DO SOMETHING. (And if you say to me you don't like me saying fuck when billions are people are going die - I say go fuck yourself and get a life.) OK.

2. And when the Germans get 100 million refugees from the middle east because it's 60C there, where are they going to go. Scandinavia? And when the North Atlantic currents collapse and it's way too cold to live there, where are the Scandinavians going to go? YOU GOT IT - back to Wales... to die.
