As winter approaches in UK, if you know you'll still #cycle to work or school every day regardless of the weather or the lack of any #cyclelanes in your area, you virtue signal as much as you like. You're out doing it by #CriticalMass. Others say they'll #ActiveTravel eventually,... they seldom do.

#ActiveTravel meeting viewpoint to consider: Yes it's a lovely Brompton, we've heard all about it before. However you're the only person here who can afford to buy a train ticket, so the rest of us have made the life choice not to do a job that requires a folding bike and a train to put it on.

#Activetravel meeting viewpoint to consider: The value of the e-bike you drive to the countryside once a week, is equal to the annual salary of most of the meeting participants that cycle every day. So your ideas may vary from people whose only bike purchase this year will be a puncture repair kit.

The whole country has worked to pay taxes for tourist rides and the richest people in the country to ride their Bromptons to corporate jobs via hipster coffee shops without having to worry about cars. Meanwhile Yorkshire doesn't have a single fully segregated arterial bike route.

Sadiq Khan has abandoned active travel in London already

#Activetravel meeting fact 2: The bloke who cycled to the meeting in a helmet, lycra and high vis, in the dark and the rain is not anti-cycle lanes. He's a realist. The 20 people that have driven there and are now arguing with him expecting 100% infrastructure will never cycle in their own lifetime.

#activetravel meeting fact: The schoolkid who has to cycle fast everyday in all weathers regardless if there's a cycle path or not, has far more to contribute to the meeting than somebody who's preaching about cyclists slowing down when all they do is take their vintage bike to hipster coffee shops.

Riding a bicycle across Hull at night because despite working full time for 30 years in a good job I can't afford a car, in a city with no proper cycle lanes, is a very good example why 60% of all Active Travel Funding needs to stop being spent on hipsters, Brompton owners and tourists in London.

They didn't need to leave. One person needed to be thrown out.

Turns out billionaire Robert Kraft has put the squeeze on artists before, leaning on his multi-millionaire friends to ensure their speech fits with his worldview/doesn't mention his --ahem--history. Good thing free speech comedians stand up to this censorship!!! PS Jeff Ross sucks.

Something very off about this. The UK property industry is synonymous with invoking deliberate car dependency through remote greenfield development.https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19cQZ27rwf/

Hooded tops to hide the beer guts and weapons. Jogging bottoms to hide the elecronic tags. Balaclavas because they can't be claiming to be actively seeking work if they're seen running about in traffic, wasting their benefits on a daytrip. The stench of Special Brew and cheap vapes must be terrible.

Most mediocre zombie apocalypse ever. No balaclavas necessary because the daft twats don't realise their mobile phones, debit card transactions, train tickets, NPR, electronic tag data, numerous social media updates, Wetherspoons debits, pinpoint exactly where they were.

If an "active travel advocate" posts a pic of a different bicycle and outfit everyday, they are an influencer. They aren't economically dependent or sustainably minded to active travel. That's not advocacy, its fashion. Just as many, if not more "ordinary cyclists" as sportier cyclists do this.

This is a completely toxic perversion of the statistics from 1967 until now. Population has obviously risen since then. But Gaza's local population has dropped following October 2023. Tens of thousands of deaths reducing Gaza's living population from 2.2 million down to approximately 2.1 million.

Idiot with blacked out windows just flung his car door open onto me while I was cycling. I have concussion, cut my head and legs. He was more bothered about his car door which didn't have a mark on it. Not reporting it, if you're still breathing Police around here aren't at all interested. #doored

Don't believe the grift. Labour have tried WMD washing, greenwashing, comfort washing [Corbyn]. Now we are being Northernwashed. Always the same mock-left Blairite ingredients. They're just trying to put somebody who can name-drop indie bands on the cover.

SOP now stands for selling out professionals. If mamagement have not shown any interest in what you do before but now wants it "On an SOP, but keep the formatting simple" , it's going straight in AI.

Of course Gen Z know nothing about packer mac, or the Raleigh Banana 10 speed . That's why they're riding around in balaclavas on illegal electric bikes. At those speeds your packer mac would ignite, and your steel wheels would buckle catapulting you into a Tandy shop window. It was a simpler time.

The term "Boycott" (not buying a ticket and not going) has been diluted to a few minutes of (easily edited out) booing. Then the audience have satisfied their moral outrage, so settle back to blindly watch and stuff popcorn into their faces. The sponsors would demand change if the public did.

Something I've noticed in Spain: Priority is given to achievable incremental improvements for people that are already active travelling. They've very little time for expensive fantasy masterplans aiming to prise habitual drivers from their cars some time in the next 50 years.

I'm about to get my road bike out and cycle 20 miles, on the road, because I am not living under the delusion that proper cycle paths will be built in British northern provincial cities in my lifetime. Critical Mass is critical thinking. Advocacy is demonstrable action.

That friend who after years of telling you your kids are badly behaved despite them both having a profound autism and Adhd diagnosis, has just found out that they themselves are mildly on the spectrum so have over night become an evangelist for neurodiversity.

I guess if they can ignore a live streamed genocidal slaughter for two years, bombing a sovereign state and kidnapping its President is small potatoes.

Just payed £9 for a 13 min train journey from a station that calls an open sided shed "secure bike parking" whilst maintaining a very large subsidised car park. This isn't enabling anything other than perpetuating car use. Spend taxpayers money north of London on proper active travel infra please.

Finally, some useful cycling research. Now let's put actual restrictions on car use and stop pretending "build it and they will come" is a foolproof development strategy. Most of UK is not getting cycling infrastructure so focus on habitual drivers and make the roads quieter road.cc/content/news...

If you see people raising #flags , film them. Time on their hands when they likely should be actively seeking work as agreed by claiming job seekers allowance. The physical ability to climb lamp posts, whilst claiming incapacity benefit. Buying flags but exploiting food banks. Vandals not volunteers

I never thought I'd agree with Reeves but Cycle to Work has always been a grift and not fit for purpose. The people thst need it most can't access it. People that can usually buy a weekender but continue to drive to work. Support grass roots bike refurbishment. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

Friend asks for a free bike. I have bikes. Serviced, cleaned, resprayed bike. Friend gets free bike from me. Friend doesn't say thanks. Friend isn't a cyclist (habitual driver) and actually just wanted a bike for one social event. To fit in. Lesson learnt.

The dregs of society that can barely draw a symmetrical red cross are scrawling their racially motivated tags on roundabouts and most councils are not bothering to remove them. One of Britain's leading artists creates a satirical humanitarian social comment and the state can't remove it fast enough.
