Gavin is turning into a huge disappointment. Ugh. Charlie Kirk was bad enough.

In the midst of an all-out authoritarian assault on the constitutional order and democratic self-government, when the nominal opposition party should be sending a clear signal to the public that this is an emergency, the Democratic Governor of California goes: “Welcome, Steve Bannon!”

A tough day for humanity, but this too will pass. Resist division. Build community. Build resilience. Build relationships. Show your neighbour you care, and show those who have lost their hearts to anger and darkness that there is a better way. No pasaràn. Not now. Not ever. 🇺🇦🇮🇪🇸🇪❤️

How do I get the text messages asking for donations to stop???? It feels like harassment. I’m getting 5-10 a day if not more. #stop#stopwiththedonationtexts

$880 billion in Medicaid cuts to fund Elon and his space adventures and the oligarchs. People will die because of this. Americans will die because of this. Shame on you MAGA.

I don’t want him to step down. But this one gesture is what a true leader would do. It’s a powerful statement. He loves the people of Ukraine.

I think my fear, which I’m finding, is a valid fear…is that most of our country is just not paying attention. And that is what will dig us into the grave. #wakeup

There are even phrases teachers can’t say, the Bill of Rights? It’s looking more like WWIII and we are the bad guys. Look around the world and see the global alliances and defenses forming. Musk’s money pit is bottomless.

It’s time to start wrapping our heads around the real possibility that collective action and even a general strike are required. Musk is working fast to solidify control, do as much damage as possible, and party “opposition” is not up to the fight. jaredyatessexton.substack.com/p/collective...

The U.S. #NationalWeatherService, housed within #NOAA, is a truly world-class meteorological predictive service, perhaps singularly so. It costs only ~$3/yr per taxpayer, & yields ~10:1 return on investment--saving economy 10s-100s of billions, not to mention thousands of lives.

Senator Chris Van Hollen@vanhollen.senate.gov

Hearing reports that Musk’s cronies are targeting NOAA — infiltrating key systems and locking out career employees. NOAA is vital for weather forecasting, scientific research and more. Their critical work saves lives. My team and I are looking into this and we will not stand for it.

I want to be clear: the private sector, as it presently exists, *cannot* quickly spin up to fill any void left by substantial dismantling of #NOAA. Full stop. If that were to happen, people would die in extreme weather events who would not have otherwise, & economy would suffer.

That's because it's unconstitutional and also fascist

Fun one from today that nobody seems to be clocking amidst all the more substantive chaos. The White House comms department is now declaring that Trump can now "sign [an] executive order into law" without a bill passing Congress. Have never seen this language from a prior White House.

This an ugly way to begin the four-year process whereby Americans relearn that the US government a) does all kinds of things they need but don't even know about, b) well, despite c) being chronically understaffed.
