There's a thought I keep kicking around - only a thought, hence it not making it into the video - that this is a little MGS3-ish; a broadly-drawn bit of series mythology gets its full story told and it reveals that things and people we thought were pillars, were instead fragile, just determined.

this has been another case of streamlining for jokes and a tight script that blunders into half-truth, where “knowing a destined battle, the still-married couple have gone their separate ways and one is now possessed and ruling a foreign country” is longer and less funny to say than “divorced”

Great post and let me take this moment to recommend the Dearly Beloathed duology, a fun enemies-to-lovers romantasy with a gleefully biting, sardonic tone that understands the one thing to save the sarcasm for is *the story*. The characters take the story dead serious, so the drama is never undercut
