Hey #HorrorWritersChat ! I'm Dex and I great up horrified of clowns...now i write about them smashing...honk honk

Greetings, #HorrorWritersChat! Today I'm guest-hosting, so buckle up. 😈 Question One: Introduce yourself, the horror you write, and share the monster that frightens (or once frightened) you most! It can be a general type, or something specific.

I think it's more about what makes the monster. A creature can't help being what it is, but we define it as a monster because it is a danger to us. It gives a lot of scope to explore aspects of nature and our own fears. Frankenstein is a perfect example of that. #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat Q4: What inspiration can we take from monsters, "real" or imagined? If you like, share a favourite creature feature (book or movie form is fine, but if you can, think of a book or short story).

#horrorwriterschat I've been seeking inspiration for new monsters reading folklore encyclopedias, books about nature and animals, and books on creature design from a drawing perspective. My favorite monster has to be Pennywise from IT (shoutout to Tim Curry), but there are so many great ones.

Solid at first, it reached out to me, showed me a face & then hid, then another face on another limb. Peek-a-boo, I see you, whispered that darkness, pulling me into its game, sinking into my skin that was no skin, devouring every particle. In the shadows, I coalesced ... #HorrorWritersChat

#HorrorWritersChat Q3: Finish the prompt - "A cry trembled from the shadows like rattling keys, and as I waited, a figure coalesced from out the darkness."

#horrorwriterschat In Say Uncle, the monster is a symbol for the theme of the book. I don't like to put my finger in other people's pie, but at the risk of doing so, it's a symbol for toxic masculinity and anger growing in a NYC apartment. I think you can use a monster as a metaphor for anything.

#HorrorWritersChat Question 2: What do the monsters in your work mean or convey? Or, if you don't include anything that could be called a monster, what can monsters mean or do in horror as a genre?

#horrorwriterschat I'm Ryan C. Bradley! I write horror comedy and comedy about horror. I love original monsters. Show me something that I haven't seen before. Especially something hulking and maybe played by a guy in a rubber suit and I'll be happy.
