I ain't often right but I've never been wrong. Typically posting about active transportation and bike lanes, the Oilers, the Grateful Dead, bbq, or whatever random thing pops into my head.

Six 12-year-olds at an escape room for Maëlle’s birthday. Each arrival doubled the volume. Once they’re locked in, I’m planning my own escape.

Slide and the Family Stone opened the Friday night curling season with a 7-0 win. All downhill from here. Already sore, but there was beer, so I'm calling it a good night.

So sore this morning. Happens every year, and every year I forget. Turns out sliding works muscles I apparently don't use the rest of the year.

A change I'd like to see in the NHL: a power play goal doesn’t end the power play. Treat minors like majors and make players serve the full two minutes.

This will be Danielle Smith's cheat-to-win election. The far right separatists she courted are turning on her. Smith will do anything to not end up discarded like every other conservative premier. That includes cheating. Her gerrymandered maps will be tabled by Nov 2.

Definitely not the Ronald McDonald/Calgary Flames mashup.

Which of these past #HeritageClassic looks is the best? 🤔 Watch the 2026 /TimHortons NHL #HeritageClassic on October 25 at 7 PM ET on /Sportsnet, /TVASports, & /NHL_On_TNT!

Because math is fun... McDavid would have to average 2.32 points/game the rest of the way. His career best is 1.87, which ONLY gets him 166. To get to 200, he’d have to score at a 1980s Mario/Gretzky rate. Fun to imagine, but not going to happen.

I see that all four of Alberta’s constitution related referendum questions have now flipped to no. And I’m enjoying this a lot more than I thought I would.

Calgary nods in agreement.

Danielle Smith put out a message to UCP supporters on twitter. UCP has to remain united otherwise the NDP wins. And they would destroy Alberta (again). Open borders, defund the police, give taxpayer drugs, censorship of free speech, eco-extremists, and be led by Avi Lewis. x.com/ABDanielleSm...

Alberta’s plan for problem gambling: 1% of revenue, split across education, research and treatment. The operators’ plan: gambling ads everywhere all the time, plus “free money” offers to pull you back in. Guess which one is going to win.

Fingers crossed.

This is a *very* speculative projection I took Q10 counts to get expected total votes and figure out how many remain for each riding and vote method for Q1-9. I then project how remaining votes will go based on Q10 riding x method fit. Given so many mail-in ballots remain, i get Q6-9 flipping No

Way lower. Abacus had it at less than 10%.

Just a note- separatists pitched option 2 to hold a binding referendum as a way to send a message to Ottawa. Many folks jumped on that idea. Which means, no, 24.5% of Albertans do not support separation. The actual number is lower.

A black Oilers jersey? How about, no. The colours are blue and orange. There is no black in the logo. Black jerseys for teams with zero black anywhere else should be illegal, and I would like this added to the list of questions for the next referendum. I’ll even the count ballots.

If you remember the Alberta referendum results being delayed last night for voting in Lavern Community Hall (in Cardston-Siksika): the vote there ended up being 307-6 (98%) in favour of Option 1.

This is a terrible statement. If you watch the full clip, he conflates frustrations about health care, cost of living, and education with the referendum. They are not even remotely related.

Avi Lewis: "I'm truly heartened that Albertans voted in a landslide to remain in Canada. The frustrations that preceded this referendum don't disappear now that the vote is over. But as Albertans have shown us, we don't fix our problems by turning on each other. We fix them by coming together."

Happy this morning to see Alberta firmly reject separation. The other nine questions, not so much. Hard to see so many Albertans choosing to blame immigrants for our province's problems. Take the day, enjoy the win on the big one. Then back to work.

If separatists fully take over the UCP, which looks likely, the next provincial election becomes another vote on separation. Every candidate should be asked one question: where do you stand on staying in Canada? The quiet takeover of that party can't be allowed to happen.

But the NDP are basically useless. And last night I watched CBC give airtime to lunatics without pushing back on any of their nonsense. So I won't be holding my breath.

Premier Smith basically got what she wanted last night. If I had to guess, her base will thank her by pushing her out the first chance they get. Things in Alberta are going to get a lot crazier before they get better.

Most of the coverage tonight has been a relitigation of Alberta’s grievances. Talking to separatists whining about Trudeau, panelists whining about Trudeau…and nobody ever really trying to introduce facts to their feelings. Pathetic.

Max Fawcett@maxfawcett.bsky.social

You don't have to do this, @cbcradiocanada.bsky.social. It's a choice. They want to defund you. They think you're a propaganda arm of an evil government. You will never win them over by showing them grace when they show absolutely none towards you.

A referendum should be the easy part. If you can’t pull that off cleanly, the hard part, actually running a country, would go quite badly.

As we are all still waiting for any referendum results 2 hours and 20 minutes after the first polls closed, I'm reminded that Justice Minister Mickey Amery's was tasked in 2023 to "...ensure election results are publicly available on a more timely basis on voting day to strengthen public trust ..."

Alberta separatist leader Mitch Sylvestre starts railing against the “new world order and globalism” on CBC News Network’s live broadcast just now

Whatever tonight's referendum results, I know the separatists aren't going anywhere. Why would they when the UCP government has made clear it's at least willing to tolerate them, if not outright support them? But I'm very much looking forward to it not being THE story for a few days.

Then we can get back to the usual UCP corruption. Or how they've failed on healthcare and education. Or their overreach into municipal policy areas. Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward to.

Quinn went FULL pickle at Picklefest today: pickle cotton candy, pickle pepperoni, pickle popcorn, pickle lemonade, and more pickle samples than we could count. And we came home with a brand-new mug and three jars of pickles, because one day of pickles is never enough.
