The only reason I can think of for this news not being absolutely everywhere is that large media orgs don’t want to be seen as putting their thumbs on the scales a week before election day. And that’s cowardly as shit.

Two thoughts Abolishing the Indian Act is good. Yeah it won’t be an easy process. But it needs to be done and tbh I’m surprised this is an initiative Carney wants to take on Also Kinew’s national profile has already been growing. But him championing this is going to elevate it further in a big way

A reason we get stadium boondoggles is that the folks in charge of budgeting don't understand BASIC public finance. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE TO COSTLESSLY EXTRACT $1 BILLION FROM THE ECONOMY. No stadium has EVER generated enough new tax revenue to pay for itself, but he projects it will.
West Sacramento's city manager insists using a mega-TIF district to siphon off $1B in taxes for an MLB expansion team wouldn't cost taxpayers anything because it's only money "generated by the stadium," not the Casino Night Fallacy again.
Sigh. This is not true. The only count that has been completed is Q. 10. There’s still around 100k ballots to still be counted amongst the remaining nine questions. suffrageapp.ca/abref26/
NEW: Elections Alberta website shows unofficial count is finished for Monday's referendum with 100% of polls reporting.

"The ‘or else’ is Dennis Modry and the Alberta Prosperity Project." —Danielle Smith, October 14, 2022. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGjq...
Bob Fife on Danielle Smith telling separatists in the UCP to find another home: "Why didn't she say that at the beginning? This is somebody who has fed them, nurtured them and accommodated them, and now they're coming for her."
Totally normal behaviour with a trusted ally.
Bloomberg scoop: Canada has banned its diplomatic staff in the US from even being in the same room as a midterm election candidate, taking an extra cautious approach to avoid accusations from the Trump administration of "interference" www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

People need to be cautious about this number. If you scroll to the bottom of the Elections Alberta page, it explains that the 96% number means the number of polling stations that have started counted at least one of the ten questions. It does not indicate the total percentage of votes counted.
About 2.5 hours till Elections Alberta is ‘legally required’ to finish counting the referendum ballots — they’re super close! As of tweeting Premier Smith is winning on 6/9 other questions, but the yes side on abolishing the senate has a lead of barely 1k votes.

7 HAS FLIPPED.
For those not paying attention, questions 6 (provincially appointed judges) and 9 (paramountcy of provincial laws) have both flipped, and “no” is now leading, as it continues to for question 8 (fully funded opt-out of federal programs). It looks like even 7 (Senate abolition) *may* flip.
If anyone out there is a nerd like me and wants to watch the results roll in tonight, here’s some links. Frankly, the Elections Alberta site sucks. I’d go with one of the others. www.elections.ab.ca referendumb.adnams.ca suffrageapp.ca/abref26/ alberta.io/election/res...
Questions 6, 8, and 9 are all now “no.” Just Q7 to go. And oh, man, do I ever want to see that one fail. referendumb.adnams.ca

Documents like these are insightful because they suggest the government is knowingly acting out of step with public opinion (and many of their own voters):
Canadians want to prioritize clean energy over fossil fuels, Carney government told in internal report New public opinion research commissioned by federal government shows a majority of Canadians want to see Canada become a clean energy superpower
He also really believes that King Charles is out to kill him, so why exactly are media continuing to give this guy oxygen?
Mitch Sylvestre on losing the referendum: "We really believe that Ottawa's been abusing Alberta for the last 10 or 11 years. And it seems to me that Albertans have given them permission to continue to do that."

Other than Q5 ("proof of citizenship to vote") and of course Q10 that got walloped, it looks like the end result will be: - a very weak mandate across the immigration Qs, despite the effort and slanted framing that went into boosting them - a clear rejection of most of the constitutional Qs #ableg
An update on projected results of the "other" 9 AB referendum Q's: Q6 flipped to No overnight, as expected. ** It still looks like all 4 "constitutional" questions will end up No ** The reason: most of the mail-in ballots are yet to be counted there. Those that have are 75% No.
Ridings that are currently very behind in ballots counted. Calgary-Foothills (28 of 62) Edmonton-Castledowns (26 of 69) Edmonton-Manning (9 of 59) Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul (36 of 74) Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche (18 of 63) Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo (8 of 40) results.elections.ab.ca/8400
Plus a ton of mail and mobile votes still to be counted. We are at 1,958,158 of 3,148,343 total votes so far. As @blakeshaffer.bsky.social has noted, this could still have an effect on questions 6-9.
Why is the CBC talking to Nathan Cullen about Alberta?
Nathan Cullen: "Danielle Smith managed to accomplish that rare feat in politics of having a binary issue and upsetting both sides equally. The separatists are not happy with her. And a lot of Albertans who voted to remain, the 75 percent, are also not happy."
Absolutely terrible framing. Why are you granting her an out? Place yourself and your party as the solution to Alberta’s problems.
Naheed Nenshi: "[Danielle Smith] has a choice. She can double down on all this culture war garbage or she can try and pivot and try and be a politician for everyone — and look, my money's on the first one."
Who could have guessed that outsourcing national security to private companies could lead to less than ideal results??
NEW: Last week, Elon Musk capped the speeds at which Ukrainian hardware could stay connected to a military-grade version of Starlink, “rendering some offensive drones and interceptor drones virtually useless.” Gift link to article here: www.wsj.com/world/ukrain...
Just once. Just one time. “Mr. Kenney, you’ve spent the last nine years suggesting that anyone in this county who disagrees on pipelines and further oil and gas development hates Alberta. Do you accept any responsibility for the vote last night and the current state of politics in Alberta?”
Jason Kenney on Albertans voting to remain in Canada: "As a Canadian patriot, I'm happy. And I'm also hopeful that we will now decisively put this behind us. This never should have happened."
