Less helpful now that citation software like Zotero exists, but i just discovered that cmd-T (or cntrl-T) auto-indents your citations. It's the small things sometimes...

Congratulations to the “Project Implicit,” which received🏆2026 SIPS Mission Award! Project Implicit offers online tests to millions of participants, uses those tests to document implicit and explicit biases, and shares massive open datasets to power discoveries in psychology and beyond.

implicit.harvard.eduProject ImplicitProject Implicit runs on small donations, most under $5. That’s what keeps the tests online, the data public, and the science accessible to anyone around the world who is interested in learning about…

do people know about china's data sovereignty law? says that data can't leave china. seems like a major issue for cross-cultural work/cross-national collaborations...

Had fun chatting with Deon about the work my lab does, and the journey to get there!

The It's Innate! Podcast@theitsinnatepc.bsky.social

New ep! 🚨 Deon chatted with Dr. Ryan Lei (ryanlei.bsky.social) about his academic journey, his work on intersectionality & intersectional invisibility, & SLACs. Plus, we discuss how race impacts kid's gender categorizations. And of course, plenty of mechanism talk! itsinnate.fireside.fm/41

This is, not hyperbolically, catastrophic

The NSF 2027 budget has noted that they will close out the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Science Program (SBE). This is not a good thing. nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/FY-202...

Maybe it's because i'm writing a paper about ethics but we're re-watching Grey's anatomy from the beginning and Izzie Stephens is so un-ethical is makes my blood boil

I like the science my lab does and I think it's more important to do now than ever, but uhh...also I'm kinda into event planning (e.g., workshops, conferences)? Did not really expect that to be my post-tenure exploration

One thing that I'm increasingly concerned about is people using face database faces in ways that are likely way beyond the scope of what the participants consented to. I hear plenty of discussion around (un)ethical use of AI in writing, but this facet of the AI revolution feels less discussed.

this is so, so sick

The Trump administration is warehousing pregnant child rape victims in a Texas facility, away from adequate medical care, in a state with one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the US, so that these child rape victims won’t be able to get abortions. www.throughline.news/p/the-trump-

Have been thinking of writing something that argues the underrepresentation of non-white samples in dev psych is because of embedded cultures of whiteness into structures -- particularly the primacy of the nuclear family. But where to send something like that

The genius of Jim Sidanius was (among other things) identifying social dominance orientation as a way that people approach the world.

You’ll feel less confused if you admit to yourself that some people don’t care about the suffering of others, and some people like it.

Project Implicit is facing an existential threat. After almost 30 years, 60 million visitors, and hundreds of published papers, funding for our work has disappeared. We’ve never held a fundraising drive before, but we need your support to keep our site running. Please consider donating! 🙏

Project Implicit is a research nonprofit behind tools millions use to understand bias. Like many public science orgs, sustaining this work has become increasingly difficult. We are at risk of closing without additional support. Help protect this impt work by donating here: 4agc.com/donate/impli...

It's been a challenging semester in many ways, but I'm taking a moment to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year. 👉 We published 5 papers, covering a range of topics from children's preferences for hierarchy to using neural networks to model person perception

👉 I came up with new ways to assess student learning that were AI-resistant, including asking students to build a toy for developmental psych, and oral exams for my seminar. 👉 We got a grant from the American Psychological Foundation to support our lab's work.

wondering aloud: might LLMs be the death of humor? If they just generate the probabilistic words/phrases, then you dont get the unexpectedness that is characteristic of humor. Probably not all humor of course -- some of the LLM-generated roasts are somewhat amusing. but not what i'm talking about

#AcademicSky anyone remember a Science™️ article published that challenged the orthodoxy that men and women sorted into hunter and gatherer roles, respectively because of evolved biological diffs? I can't google my way to it so hoping someone knows what i'm referring to....

My hot take for the day: abolish asking “how are you” as a greeting. takes too much energy to lie and say fine when everyone is just hanging on by a thread

One thing I continue valuing about doing work with kids is that you have to interact with them to collect data

new paper by Sean Westwood: With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research
