And to close out this thread: I made two main menu bgs just for funsies HASJKH The first one was something I joked about with damsel iykyk and since i've been messing around with transforms a lot lately I gave er a little movements to make it a little more interesting! 2nd one u have to play to see!

I ended up with a lot of extra time to work on extra assets cuz I wanted to get major stuff outta the way so there was time to code them in and it was super worth it seeing them add a little more depth to an otherwise static setting

Cres did an absolute insane job bringing the sprites to life in game once they were all done, all the little movements they made just made them even more expressive and they were KILLING me as I added sfx

And I cant even begin to describe how funny it was to make the second versions of the sprites, I was literally laughing to myself like a maniac over how stupid they and funny they were ๐Ÿ˜ญ seeing them in game just adds so much to the chaos and nonsense we wanted to achieve

The vibe we wanted for the game was derived from our love for gintama and its comedy is so grounded, unapologetic and just fckn insane. I dont know if anyone could possibly get on sorachi's level except him but I found it an exciting challenge to unmoor myself a little for the sprites in this game

I straight up spent an entire day just making face parts for every character + the extra bodies of the player and knight SDAKJ when cres gave me the list needed I basically added like 2 pages more of expressions LMAO In total theres over 140 parts to combine for the full spectrum of CRAZY

Went into this jam with the intention to just make something stupid and unserious as reprieve from our more bigger projects so first thing I did was figure out a feel for the art style that walked the line of simple yet expressive that I would enjoy using.

Then after I had the outline for the script twas time to design the characters! I did some sketches of expressions to practice pushing them beyond my comfort level and not really letting attractiveness hold me back before starting the actual designs.
