London born, long term resident in Italy. Was an architect, once, but not in the way you'd think! Serious interests are many, and often political. Silly interests are cats, The Archers, and Formula 1.

There are so many 'exceeding track limits' that in a few laps the rubber being laid down will turn all the corners into a much wider 'grey track' ad we won't notice! #F1

Right, I'm off to the Formula 1 feed #F1 for some relaxing boredom and an escape from Republicans and Brexit discussions!

As my public service announcement, the qualifying for the Grand Prix #F1 in Texas starts at 23.00 European time tonight, (22.00 UK time). Tomorrow I'll let you know when the race starts - it's a bit beyond me because Europe messes about with the time tonight, and the US doesn't!

What are the 'qualifications' for voting in the upcoming elections in Israel? I'm hearing reports of people flying into Israel from Europe and the US in order to vote not Netenyahu, and also reports that attempts are being made to disrupt flights.

I am clearly a conundrum to advertisers. I get cures for fungal toenails, offers from Ann Summers, anaesthetic trolleys, elecric generators and unlikely dating sites. It's quite a relief to get a generic ad from Temu. What am I doing right?

I have read that Trump 'will not allow' independent election observers. Can he do that? Who (as in which international body) delegates this duty? Does the 'observed' country have to agree?

I think it's nice to thank companies who are willing to be generous, and refund inadvertently paid subscriptions even though they are by no means at fault. So today Corel get my heartfelt thanks, and previously Norton were very understanding.

I do feel sorry for Scaramucci, he has lost his record as shortest serving press person! He was very entertaining on his #TheRestIsPoliticsUS podcast yesterday, confronting this threat to his USP.

... err, I have a misty notion that this is a human-intelligent response, and I shall have to put down my prejudices. It's maybe fake AI 😵

The bond stress is the market separating real estate from silicon. Shells and grid hookups support twenty-year debt, but neoclouds borrowed against accelerators facing three-year write-downs. When secondary rental rates soften, debt service outlasts the useful life of the collateral.

The beeb are promoting a documentary about car thefts, which (as far as I remember hearing) is called Stolen and 'is available on iplayer now'. I can't find it (searching on stolen) so can anybody assist in pointing me to it?

I do wish that salesmen making credible promises about lowering utility bills (which turn out to be untrue) understood the anguish which these lies cause to their victims. It's the 'questions not asked' which come back to haunt you, and you end up distrusting the whole world, including yourself.

Yet again I need to know when the #F1 starts tomorrow (Sunday). European time would be perfect, but I could cope with BST (from England)! Thanks in advance. I can't cope with non European venues.

I'm not pleased by Burnham's (reported) position on Man City. I was impressed by his speech, happy about his proposals (if a bit vague), but then today he comes out with a defence of the Man City owners because they (I paraphrase) threw a lot of money at Manchester.

I have sometimes disparagingly said of a designer outfit "that woman is wearing curtain material", but never before have I seen "the sofa look". Did she not read the "couch posts"?

Ma è vestita da divano Chesterfield per Halloween?

This is an interesting short thread, with a bit of insight on Switzerland's neutrality, and far right manipulations.

Rahel Freiburghaus@rfrbrghs.bsky.social

On 27 Sept, Swiss voters will decide whether to constitutionally enshrine “permanent and armed neutrality“, forcing Switzerland to stop adopting EU sanctions against R/s/sia. What does this reveal about the Swiss far right’s ties to R/s/sia & RUS disinformation in Swiss direct-democracy campaigns?🧵

Hysteria about AI doesn't really 'compute'. AI is an unreliable tool, encouraged by 'line managers', who are encouraged to embrace it by their bosses, and when they interrogate their 'coal face' the response is less than meh. This is in a field (data analysis) which one would think was AI's forte.

Excitement today. We had a big thunderstorm at 6am and a seriously big electricity cable got struck, with spectacular sparking and electrical smells, bit of soot on the external render, but we didn't lose power. Was it my job to report it? I got through the AI assistant and spoke to a human. 1/2

Human asked if it was a danger? Yes, I suppose we could describe it so. Less than ten minutes later a repair crew arrived. Mended it with insulating tape. This is la dolce vita in Umbria, but at warp speed. You gotta love it! 2/2

I was surprised that the UK government today proposed/implemented some sanctions on occupied West Bank Palestinian territories. I had assumed that such sanctions had been in place for decades.

I think tonight (for no particular reason) I have succumbed to Bannon's flood the zone, and have drowned. I do hope stronger younger people still maintain the will to resist.

#Newsnight was quite interesting tonight. Ed Conway, who I admire for his writing about 'hardware' (Material World etc.) came across as very bright, but the ghastly Camilla Tominey is even worse in speech than she is when she scribbles.

As usual, a fascinating thread from Nick, this is truly a 'you couldn't make it up contemporary story. Still a wok in progress ...

If you've perused Italian media over the last few weeks you'll have seen two names recurring frequently in the headlines: Sigfrido Ranucci and Walter Lavitola. These two very different personalities are at the centre of an intricate news story that seems crazy even by Italian standards [Thread] >> 1

Bluesky's 'Trending' has been a bit peculiar for a week or two, but tonight's offering seems to have been served up by an illiterate bot, at least a year out of date on the renaming idiocy. (And kudos to anyone who can parse sentence number one.)

So I've noticed laments about Bluesky misbehaving recently, but it was fine for me. It's still okay on Android app, but Chrome on the PC is asking me to sign in and then just spinning its wheel.
