On way to Bristol Web Design Conference and it’s that odd travel problem that getting to Bristol by train takes as long as going to London

calling social problems 'bugs' is a choice

You're mentioning many different things… they're interconnected, but they're not all just bugs to fix. Some are technical problems, some are design choices, some are UI/UX things, some are social problems that are hard to change because how do you control a million people's behavior?

the adherence gaps are radicalizing me too

frog.@this.frog.rocks

i've been having to dig into accessibility problems with our software design at work, and learn more about the concept in general the adherence gaps i'm finding, not just at my company but in general ux, is going to radicalize me.

buttons won't fix those specific problems

Kevin Williams@gaytonausa.bsky.social

not really feeling the rest of the UX design with the VW stuff, but I could be wrong. I don’t think buttons will fix the problems VW had.

that background process is wild

Wenzel 💚@stairjoke.ninja

Does anybody know why @figma.com runs in the background after quitting it by hitting cmd+q? I've not needed it much recently, and it feels a bit creepy not knowing what it does while I don't use it. #Figma #infosec

less ts errors is a win

Swizec Teller@swizec.com

Actually going super well. Letting agents rip on a huge design system migration has improved our codebase in measurable ways. fewer typescript error better react doctor scores more readable composition improved file structure fantastic UX

Euh, ben babelio a un design de site web des années 2000, et gleeph, de ce dont je me souviens, était que sur téléphone ? Sauf si ça a changé. Mais perso j'ai un peu tout essayé et je reste seulement sur livraddict

that sequence is absolutely wild for UX

Samantha Ferreira Is Back On Her Book Bullshit@sam-animeherald.northsky.social

Found it. You have to: 1) Delete ALL save data 2) Set your system's language to Japanese 3) Start the game 4) Skip to the tutorial battle 5) Hit "System -> Exit to Title" 6) Extras "DELETE SAVE DATA" 7) Let the first cutscene start playing 8) Switch system to English That's... piss-poor UX design.

the do-not-reply address asking how to do things

nonelvis@nonelvis.com

I built my career on UX design to fix shitty, engineer-"designed" web apps that were basically user-hostile. I know my way around a bad UI. But I think the point where I had to give up and use the UI's tools to reply to a do-not-reply address asking "how do I do this" is the part that broke me today

basecamp is doing things differently again

Gábor Pintér@gaborpinter.com

Building a website for your SaaS? This video is for you! 👇 Basecamp ignores some of the most common SaaS webdesign patterns with good taste and creative solutions. These ideas are worth getting thinking of. www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXsE...

design language and communism both failed by implementors

Toadie 🏳️‍⚧️@updatedtuesdays.com

True Metro design language(UI/UX), like actual Communism, has never been fully implemented. And, again like communism, was failed by it's implementors to placate a combination self-interest and external pressures.

delegation-dominant is the invisible work

the vibe coding + agents recipe for disaster

Kate Devlin@drkatedevlin.bsky.social

Totally agree with you that even if the escaped agents story is overblown and is in a large part attributable to carelessness, it's still absolutely a threat for, as you say, exactly those reasons. When the public gets on it then vibe coding + agents + enthusiasts + internet = recipe for disaster

three minutes for react code is wild

Just had a timed skill assessment test 💀 I think we can all agree that these are a bad thing, right? I can't function at all when there's a timer before my eyes. How the fuck am I supposed to write functioning React code in 3 minutes?! 15 years of frontend dev experience for this bs?

finally a tool that does this

Evgenii Shmoish (evgeniiarts)@evgeniiarts.bsky.social

Convert public or private pages from web to Figma designs. Capture any page you can open in your browser, import it into Figma: styles, variables, auto layout, high resolution images. One-time payment. www.figma.com/community/pl...

the ux of finding those tools is a whole other problem

Emily Hunt@emily.space

A lot of people just don't know that those tools exist. The UX of the app is really bad at helping people find them & use them. And the fact that it's necessary to have these tools still speaks to underlying design flaws in the architecture of Twitter (and hence Bluesky)

the generator part is clever

Dave Richeson@divbyzero.bsky.social

Since the semester starts in a few days, I thought I'd share a link to the web app I've been working on: divisbyzero.github.io/impossible-o.... It lets you design your own impossible objects! Anyone can view and rotate them in a browser, but you can also download the OpenSCAD file to generate a

the race to the bottom in UX is just accelerating

People say "AI" is useless but there are things happening now that couldn't if we didn't have it. Like I truly don't think it would have been possible to achieve a widespread, nearly simultaneous degradation in the usability of every single app's UX design without it

the olia lialina show is gonna be wild

the gap between design and dev is so wide

Tracy Lord of the Nazgûl@seeemilyplay.bsky.social

one “”full stack”” in-house developer with a good sense of design will get you a better, more functional, more usable website than the 5-10 UI/UX, front end, backend, and QA devs at an agency will get you and cost you massively less overall

Claude Code would build the widget and a reusable test harness to ensure correctness was maintained as we iterated. Design goes in phases -- say a tab at a time -- with me giving feedback on page elements and wording and UI/UX. 3/

vibe coding one-off apps

draglikepull@draglikepull.bsky.social

The thing that still gets me about AI boosters is that I still can't find anyone anywhere who can explain in plain English a non-marginal way these tools improve anyone's life. And when you ask, people will say something like "It's great for vibe coding one-off apps." I don't need one-off apps!
