China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, ‘Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD. In contrast, the crudely animated ‘Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.

When I was a kid, I woke up early on a Saturday morning and decided to watch TV while everyone else was still sleeping. I turned on the TV to Star Trek at the exact moment that there was an extreme close up of a Klingon giving a battle roar. I immediately turned the TV off and went back to bed.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

If you see this, repost with a Sentai team that is not Power Rangers or Super Sentai.

Updating my "Tales of Cockroach Man and Scales" character models for Unreal. I've added cloth simulation for loose fabric and moved from hair cards to strand-based hair using the Ahoge plugin for Maya. #3dart #3dmodeling

Mu freshman year of high school, we had a rather basic assignment in English class - pick any fiction book out of the library and write a book report about it. Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?” Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

Humans began by offloading domestic labor to their apes, but soon they were also turning away from intellectual labor. And as time went on, like a muscle unused, the human mind atrophoed into a primal state while apes rose to dominance.

I dont believe that LLMs have any capacity to reach sentience, but as I see study after study showing AI usage as having a negative impact on learning and critical thinking skills, I can't help but think that silly little ape book might be the most important story I've ever read.

The movies, a product of the late sixties, were obsessed with the looming specter of nuclear Armageddon, while the book, like influence by mass media and the growing consumer economy, saw mankind's fall from grave differently.

In a scene not to dissimilar to the Animus from the Assassin's Creed games, the apes hypnotized a human test subjects to tap into the memories of an ancestors. There were learned that one luxury in particular led to this collapse - the trained ape.

Scifi movies from the sixties and seventies were based on felt like getting away with something. Like those movies, though, the real twist in this story is the ending.

The book, like the movie, ended with the protagonist finding out that he was not on a distant planet, but rather in Earth's far future, where mankind regressed to an animal state and apes became intelligent. The mechanism for this twist, however, was much different.

I don't need help from slop engines to make my 3D art look 3D animated. I've got that one covered, Lieutenant Commander Stolen Data.

This is bizarre because I feel like one of the best things about the Carpenter special was the clarity of its premise?

There are currently no active conversations for a full ‘MUPPET SHOW’ series revival. Disney, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey Pictures have had difficulties with deciding on a premise for the series that they can all agree on. (Source: Deadline)

A rough storyboarding exercise, trying out the animation side of Clip Studio paint to better plan out a project.

Every time I walk back in from delivering someone's drive up order, I feel like this stick is trying to give me a call to adventure.

A work of classic literature is dominating at the box office. The Muppets have an opportunity to do the funniest thing.

The animation chat has me thinking one telling thing - in the years since AI arrived, there's not been a ground-up indie phenomenon, like we saw with earlier tech (Flash, etc). It hasn't unlocked anyone's creativity. For all the anti-gatekeeping rhetroic, nothing anyone cares about has been born.
