Obviously sad and disappointed that the Dodgers went out that way. Just didn't even show up. But so happy I don't have to listen to Smoltz drone on anymore.

Wanted to start a book thread to keep myself accountable over the course of 2026, so I figured I would start it with what I read 2025! Read a lot of genres I don’t normally check out, so hoping to do more of that this year. Keeping this thread up to date as I go!

Really enjoyed Doctorow’s explanation of AI, the ways it is affecting our world, how & why we should or shouldn’t use it, and where that industry is going. Its not all bad, there’s just a lot of bad involved. IMO a perfect follow up to the more specific point of view with Empire of AI.

“It has nothing to do with the idea of us becoming dogs, and everything to do with the fact of us being girls.” More men should go and read The Hounding. Stop being a dumb guy and just let girls be girls. Or dogs. Whatever they wanna do.

Wrapped up The Buffalo Hunter Hunter this morning. I was sold by the small buffaloes on the sides, and remained hooked by the bloody revenge story within. It reminded me of The Fisherman both in structure and how uneasy I felt reading through some sections. Big spooky month recommendation!

Empire of AI by @karenhao.bsky.social is one of the most important books I’ve read! I think it’s vital for everyone to understand why these companies are so harmful, and how they are using bullshit claims to just get more power. Gunna start being real annoying, telling everyone to read this!

I didn’t realize just how much of a “classic” The Honjin Murders was when I picked this book up the other day, but after reading through it and then looking into Yokomizo’s work, it seems I have a TON more Kindaichi tales to dive into. If you like a classic murder mystery, don’t pass this one up.

I could’ve kept reading Under the Dome even after the ~1000 pages, but it’s probably for the best to step away from some of these assholes for a while (got enough Big Jim Rennies to deal with in our own world). Knocked out two massive King novels this year and may try for a third (The Stand 👀).

Looks like a great mode to get players in who may be on the fence or don't care for PvP, and an awesome way to see some of the coolest stuff in Marathon. Give it a try!!

Vault Breaker is Marathon's first experimental PvE mode, set in Cryo Archive. Play as a crew, duo, or solo—no enemy players. Power up across runs with roguelite progression to overcome UESC hordes, vault security measures.... and even the Compiler. Available July 21 - August 4 youtu.be/ec5bLvYiWZo

Sony bought this studio thinking it was a ticket to sate their desire for a hit live game. They delivered a new live game that is one of the finest shooters ever made, and this is their reward: layoffs and uncertainty for those who remain. Who can work under these conditions?

Knocked out Later by @stephenking.bsky.social in just a few days. Quick read but also couldn’t put it down! I read Joyland from his Hard Case Crime novels a couple years ago, and now recommend both of these! On to more King? Been eyeing Under the Dome and Dark Tower every time I’m at the book store.

The almost stream of consciousness writing style immerses you into the mind of Tarare and the world around him, putting you in the center of his weird and sad tale. I wish I took less big breaks reading through this one because it always took me time to re-adjust how it read, but really enjoyed it!

I know the entire point of why I bought a @frame.work laptop last year was to be able to upgrade it, but seeing them announce something that will allow me to cheaply upgrade the main issues I have with my laptop (battery & trackpad) still blows my mind. And I can make it Matte Black 🤯

Trying to read more non-fiction this year, and like most of them, this one took me a while (& I read 2 other books during it). However, the topic of space settlement was incredibly fascinating, and A City on Mars was enlightening on why that is going to be very hard for humanity to do well!

The Devils was quite a violent, funny, bloody, messy romp that I only sorta enjoyed. I like the wild cast of characters, but felt that they didn’t get enough time actually doing things all together. I was hoping that’d change near the end, but I still remained bored as the story came to its climax.

Marathon feels so damn good when you can turn a session around. Going from a string of runs where you get stomped on, to successfully exfilling after winning multiple fights makes you feel unstoppable.

Marathon rules. Cryo Archive rules. All I wanna do is play that game more right now. Only had a few successful runs (no vault stuff) but getting the same feels I felt after completing a new Raid in Destiny 2 in for the first time. Just want to do it again and again and again.

good read! does a great job putting into words how it feels playing Marathon. finished the article, then booted the game.

I finally wrote down a lot of thoughts on Marathon while I wait for Cryo Archive Marathon isn't about having a good time, it's about making your opponents have a bad time. www.restart.run/articles/mar...

if you've ever wanted to tinker around and make a lil thing, PICO8 is a great tool to start with! and this video is such a nice, not-tech-heavy intro into it!!

A Short Stay in Hell felt like remembering a long dream (nightmare?) that feels like it’s just real life and you start to just exist in that world now. While dreaming it, it feels close enough to reality to believe it but then you notice something way off, and wake up. Or do you? Anyway, read this!

Just absolutely blown away by 11/22/63 from @stephenking.bsky.social. It’s so good that I almost want to immediately reread all 800+ pages! Despite growing up in a household with a dedicated bookcase to King, I haven’t read very much of his work, and I think this book is going to change that.

Birds in Big Bear (& one hiding in the zoo). Just look at that little hop! Day late from posting on IG, possibly out of order(?), and one less photo, but trying to keep IG & bsky 1:1. #canonr8 #birds #bigbear

First book of 2026 was Clear by Carys Davies, a lil tale that takes place during the Scottish Clearances. It was a quick read, but I really enjoyed my time getting to know these characters, seeing their unexpected story unfold, and learning more about this period of history.

Great listen to wrap up the year! Thought the chat about AI in games was really important. It was not just simply “AI is bad” but also brought up interesting points that made me think about how minor inclusions of AI in #gamedev could affect projects/teams/studios/etc long term.
