If you aren’t following Claire already for the Catholicism explanations, may I suggest following for how often her threads are among the funniest things on Bluesky?

This type of logic undergirds so many arguments (journalistic, academic, etc.) about music to the point that I theorize an important social function of music discourse in the US (and a primary reason it continues as part of our commercial media) is to launder/normalize white supremacist reasoning

This whole thread. And also the raising of that money needs to be sustainable year to year. A big, one-time gift may buy you time, but if it goes away, you’re right back where you started

I have really loved the clothes I’ve gotten from these folks and they are now dealing with a huge tariff bill that they were not expecting. Check out their cute stuff and/or the GoFundMe!

Making my way through this delightful book and I can now say this theory seems plausible:

It's time to go back to Gotham City. My book, I AM THE NIGHT: THE ULTIMATE UNAUTHORIZED HISTORY OF BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, comes out today! It's a narrative history of the landmark cartoon, packed with new interviews and deep-dive research. Grab a copy here: us.macmillan.com/books/978125...

The two poles of consumer interaction: 1) Oh cool, everyone just has a chatbot now instead of designing a navigable website 2) Uh whoa, this actual human customer service rep has a very sexy voice

Ok, but why is no one talking about the other enduring legacy of this episode which is introducing children to the poetry of William Blake?!

Is "Tyger, Tyger" a great episode? No. Does its Island of Dr. Moreau-inspired plot about the transformation of Catwoman into a literal cat woman lend itself to anything emotionally profound? Eh, sort of. Was it highly impactful to a certain group of BTAS fans? Absolutely. And for that, it matters.

I just rewatched this episode because it has one of the most perfect scripts in the series, but also to examine why it fascinated me as a kid (still does now) and I think it’s this: Of all the Rogue’s Gallery: Tetch scares me the most.

"Mad as a Hatter" introduces Jervis Tetch, arguably BTAS's most pathetic villain. Wallowing in loneliness and self-entitlement, he seeks to force the connections that elude him in real life. It's an effective, melancholic episode: "Would not, could not... oh, could not join the dance."

It struck me again in watching how *kind* Alice is to him. She gives him way more of the benefit of the doubt even before he starts, you know, mind-controlling people and being a creep. They could totally be friends in a world where he didn’t make his pain everyone else’s problem!

Costumed villainy aside, the roots of his wickedness are all too familiar: A desire for power over people he feels are beneath him. Feeling entitled to a woman’s affections, regardless of her own wants. Displacing blame for his harmful actions on to others.

If, like me, the ‘90’s Warner Bros. animation renaissance is among the reasons you are Like This, then please enjoy this terrific thread of BTAS episodes

Between Alt and Dockery’s books, I’m also curious if anyone’s drawn a straight line between these WB cartoons and the success of Toonami’s widespread introduction of anime to my generation

People know about the artistic connection between BTAS and the late ‘90‘s cult anime “The Big O” (which rules), but I’m talking more about how BTAS with its sophisticated writing made me look at, say, Gundam Wing or Sailor Moon and go “ofc animation can tell serious stories, I’ve seen it”

I maintain that Tiny Toons/Animaniacs/BTAS/Freakzoid/etc. has had the kind of impact on the shaping of my media tastes, understanding of narrative, and knowledge of the workings of comedy and drama at a level that I’m just beginning to grasp as an adult

1/ Today, an executive order was signed aimed at childhood vaccines. There's no new scientific data for this policy, but there were a LOT of words and confusing rhetoric at the press conference. Here’s what today actually means for you and your family.

“Without the nuances of Morton’s performance, the Circe scene as written by Nolan is rooted in men’s questionable fear of being accused of violence against women rather than the tragedy of how women navigate that very real threat to our lives.”

There was no credited sound board operator in the playbill, so I’m honestly not sure if there WAS one. I do not get it! I shouldn’t have trouble hearing your body-micced principals over your 14 member unamplified ensemble in a <300 seat house!

And yes, there is some blame that goes on the singers who I do not think are being told/taught to enunciate and project and instead assume the mic will just handle that. (Or sing lyrics with any sense of the phrase or sentence structure for intelligibility. But I digress.)

I deeply admire Courtney Milan’s commitment to the science of entertainment this lazy Sunday afternoon

These have arrived and they are chilling in the fridge, because there's a little cheery graphic on the side that suggests it tastes less like death if you can't taste it very well. Gonna go run errands and return to see if this is tasty.
