This Small Business Saturday Shout Out is an important and tasty one. October is Black History Month and we have some fantastic black owned businesses across Luton North, including the famous Riley’s in Sundon Park.

I love coming in here for their wonderful tea selection, sweet potatoes and one of their tasty patties (I couldn’t wait to get in the car for my jerk chicken patty). This Black History Month, check out some other fab black owned business across Luton North - from Fola Fabrics to Jobyco Shipping.

If your timeline isn’t full of planes crabbing and making awesome landings in cross winds, I think your algorithm is broken.

It was great to speak at the CBI annual breakfast about the future for business in Northern Ireland. There is such excitement and optimism about the opportunities for a growing economy and success for the people who get the jobs done! Side note: 1st time I’ve given a speech in front of a waterfall

As Babyloss Awareness Week draws to a close this year with the annual Wave of Light, I want to send lots of love to everyone who has been affected by pregnancy and babyloss. It can be the loneliest place on the planet but you are never alone.

Orgs like Miscarriage UK, Tommys & Sands will always be there with support, advice and information. I will always count myself so lucky to have the wonderful 🌈 baby who is now a fully grown kiddo keeping us in our toes. 💙💖 #waveoflight

Challney residents are getting an upgraded multi-use sports area thanks to the work of your Labour councillors and the Labour government. ⚽🎾 🏑🌹 Great to join Challney councillor Basit Mahmood to talk through the new facilities. Labour is investing in #Luton

Sadly not much shocks me anymore about the far right, but this is sickening. The quotes from the Reform councillors about people who aren’t white or muslim are abhorrent. And I’m sure this man would still call himself a ‘patriot.’

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Another Reform councillor in South London called for the King to be decapitated for being a secret Muslim. Reform say they are taking disciplinary action against a small number of councillors who do not share their values. I believe both would be welcome in Restore www.itv.com/news/2026-10...

And for the person who says this mixed raced woman who has called out racism, even when it was coming from within her own party, “doesn’t get to clutch proverbial pearls” - may I suggest they check my earlier and even recent work before assuming they know me or my values.

Whether you choose to mark Babyloss Awareness Week alone, or if it is too much this year, there is always help out there from the fantastic brilliant charities like Miscarriage UK & NI, Sands & Tommys. Whatever role I have, I’ll always support others to break the stigma of pregnancy loss & babyloss

The morning and afternoon in Holborn & St Pancras. 🌹 It was great to speak with so many people choosing hope with Labour today. An added bonus to knock on doors alongside the fantastic Jamie and fellow geriatric millenial @joshfg.bsky.social, apparently his t-shirt is a famous service station 🤷🏻‍♀️

It is simply not true. The Shadow Home Office minister will have many constituents who work in Luton and will not recognise his warped description. He should get off social media and meet our many fantastic Lutonians.

Great parks make a world of difference to our green spaces, a place to have fun for all ages. It was great to drop in on Leagrave Park ahead of its opening and see it take shape. I've fought to get more money into parks, and this is the difference a Labour government makes 🛝🌹

Would not want to melt Braverman’s brain further but just throwing us mixed race/heritage folk into the mix…👋

Farrukh@implausibleblog.bsky.social

Suella Braverman suggests on #BBCQT that you can't be English unless you are white, and have a lineage or heritage going back some generations

Nah, there is no lightening up about rape. I am so glad to be part of a government that takes tackling violence against women & girls seriously. And protecting the right for victims of sexual offences to lifelong anonymity in the press and public.

Michael Tracey@m-tracey.bsky.social

This is called being facetious and "joking" because everyone is not required to be so goddamn morose about this subject 24/7. Lighten up bitch

What a speech from Andy Burnham. He's right - politics as normal isn't working for people in Luton North and across the country. We need change.

Proper, meaningful investment in council homes and ending rough sleeping will make a huge difference to people's lives here in Luton North, ensuring everyone can access a safe, affordable and secure home.

And more opportunities to invest in our young people, better training, apprenticeships and qualifications, to benefit from the incredible talent I seen every time I visit our schools and sixth forms. These are just some of the things the PM spoke about today. Now, we get to work.

I've worked as a care worker. I know that the system is just not working. A National Care Service will be absolutely transformational for those needing care and care workers alike.

This morning I went to the Macmillan Coffee Morning at the Black Swan Pub today, organised by the lovely Dee, Susie and Patrice. It was a fantastic morning with a brilliant turnout! Lots of tea, coffee, homemade cakes and sausage rolls 😋☕️🍰

Getting the steps in the Holborn & St Pancras by-election. I really hope Sagal gets to be the next MP for a part of London she’s grown up in and serves as a Cllr. 🌹

This change in law matters to Luton North. It matters for the 1 in 4/5 pregnancies that end in loss. From April next year, women and their partners who experience a pregnancy loss before 24 weeks will be entitled to two weeks of bereavement leave.

his includes IVF embryo transfer failures and all forms of babyloss. We are now one of just a handful of countries that recognise miscarriage and pregnancy loss as the bereavement it is. Thank you to everyone who has supported this campaign and to the Labour Government for making this happen.

Today, the government has announced it is bringing in statutory bereavement leave for pre-24 week pregnancy loss from next April. This will make a huge difference to women and their partners who experience the pain of losing a pregnancy - and finally recognise it as the bereavement that it is.

Six months on from this speech, today the Prime Minister has announced the introduction of specialist rape and sexual offence courts in every Crown Court. I can't tell you how much this change means, nor the difference these measures would have made for me and so many survivors I've worked with.

🚨 WATCH: Labour MP Charlotte Nichols reveals she was raped as an MP as she opposes the jury trial reforms "I waited 1,088 days to go to court. We've been told [by the Government] that if we have concerns about this Bill, it's because we've not been raped"

As rail companies come back into public control, the Labour govt is getting rid of nonsensical rules that prevented passengers from using other train companies during disruption. This will make it easier for everyone to get around without having to pay for another ticket. Starting this weekend! 🚄

Congratulations to Liv! I know she will do a great job taking on one of the best select committees there are, and taking on issues that matter to us all.

🇵🇸 The situation in Palestine is a moral emergency. Today, the government announced a ban on trade with illegal settlements, a new sanctions regime against settlers, and a "double lock" arms sales ban on arms being used in the West Bank and Gaza.

The government will also support the work of the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court in ensuring accountability for all breaches of international law.

🎂 Happy 60th Anniversary to Luton Sixth Form College! The college has been part of the lives of so many Lutonians over the last 60 years. Post-16 education and skills are a key part of my agenda for Luton North, and it’s always a pleasure to partner with Altaf and everybody at the sixth form.

It was wonderful to hear from former Principal Simon Kitchener, and see amazing musical theatre performances from students. Here’s to another successful 60 years.
