people are trying to fit lula and melenchon and mamdani and other libs-n-lefts into a kind of "left-nationalism against americanized right-wing fascist internationalism" but it's more accurate to say this tendency is a kind of urban cosmopolitanism against a brotherhood of nations under us hegemony

Chainsaw Man, final analysis: Part 0: Shonen Jump Aesthetic opinions aside, Chainsaw Man remains a defining work of popular fiction in the 20’s. It’s publication was a drastic departure from Jump’s editorial mainstream of the 00’s and 10’s. First, we examine the nature of this divergence.

democracy does not die from the top down, but rather the bottom up. it's not the institutions that become crudely crushed by an authoritarian boot, nor is it the pacification of an otherwise politically active population through mindless entertainment. it's the manipulation of the decision space.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

I've seen some trans people, specifically white/western trans people. Ignore and even dismiss the suffering of other marginalized groups cause we're universally hated regardless. This is true, but it's also this kind of worldview reeks of ignorance and privilege and also racism because

Because it ignores the fact that trans people also exist in these other marginalized groups, and despite sharing the same struggles, the thought that supporting said marginalized groups could also make their lives even so slightly better isn't something that crosses their minds

"the anglosphere" was a 200 year long experiment born out of a burkean conservative reaction to the french revolution that has caused nothing but endless misery and stagnation

Trans people being evil not a moral contradiction, just like any other human, we can be pieces of shit, it's not an excuse, but it's the same type of logic people use to lump us all into one when a trans person does something bad

Doing a backflip is cool in that it’s hard to do. Doing it during a serious conversation about your pattern of racist behavior is an obvious distraction and not cool at all. It is, in fact, very lame.

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

The notion of "dead/lost art form" is ridiculous. "Art" is not a tangible living thing or object that could be lost nor has a beginning and end. For me it's like this thing that has been evolving and diversifying for as far as our history shows. You can just get put some disco on and start jamming

They never question anything they keep themselves ignorant of the fact that it's the west that made and keeps making those areas politically unstable. And when those problems inevitably affect them they can only react to it cause they still refuse to question

Cause if you did, maybe you could find the cause and do something about it. It's how you get people who keep whining about certain works of art they like getting worse.or disappearing but will not support artists in any way, whether it's their working conditions, the time they're given, the payment

And this ain't just about art at some point but it's something people will do with any societal problem art is just something that will be affected cause nothing exists in a vacuum etc etc It's how westerns will say people from the middle east or south Africa keep fighting killing each other because

But they never ask why, why things changed what drove things to change, just like people and their behaviours and habits are bi products of their conditions and environments, that of course will also affect the way they choose to express themselves and thus the art is that is produced from them

It's for the better to question why things are the way they are, but if you think things have changed especially in a way you don't like, I wonder why you wouldn't question why? Why wouldn't you look at the conditions and the changed the art you were a fan of?

But I do understand to an extent it's nice seeing things you like around, listening to people talk about the stuff you're into, and not everyone has the time or energy to put in the effort to make what they wanna see, or listen to but this reveals another problem I have

It's noticeable that some things have definitely been forgotten, others have stopped being practiced much less if not at all, and others have gotten worse others watered down. But a lot of people only make a surface level observation of these things, they point it out and maybe complain about it

You can draw a caricature or anime girl in the same art style they used to in the 2000s or 90s or 80s or 60s. If your problem is that you don't see industries, the mainstream or other people in general do it or talk about it then I doubt you were ever really there for the art to begin with
