If the reason you think art is worth your time is because it took a lot of skill or effort then you are badly missing out on a lot of really good art.

Sometimes I feel like I should go outside and touch grass but have you seen the grass lately? I think I'll stick to the internet thanks.

I've been basically all in on AI coding since January. Honestly the actual code generated can be pretty good. However the workflow is just total inhumane garbage and the most popular solutions (e.g. Claude Code) are going in a direction that makes it worse.

They all promote endless multitasking but provide no affordances to make that not miserable. They all just want you to YOLO permissions and are happy to risk deleting your computer at a moments notice. They hide the work as much as possible rather than helping you review and understand it.

We need better task management, security models, and review workflows if this is going to scale. And the obvious wall in capability the SOTA models are hitting makes this even more important. They aren't going to get trustworthy enough to ignore these bottlenecks.

If only Americans are allowed any future models from US AI companies isn't this going to just destroy their TAM? The US is not even half the professional market for AI.

Looking forward to welcoming our 7th unelected prime minister in my life time. We've only had 4 people become PM via a general election since 1979.

/r/conservative actually managed to make a joke involving Pride that at least has the general shape of a joke AND has no slurs. Our politics is healing.

I wonder if people who look at LLMs and worry about their fallibility know about biological processes like protein self assembly? Error tolerance and self correction is a critical aspect of resilient system design and it rarely relies on humans noticing every single error to achieve it.

all of these things are true of human labor. do you have any idea what the 742,000 people who work at Accenture globally are doing? and if people knew when they were making mistakes, they wouldn't make them www.wheresyoured.at/premium-the-...

Not sure I am going to start taking my ethical advice from an organisation that is still riddled with pedos, bans condoms and abortions and hates gay and trans people.

In case you are in any doubt that the Vatican is a historically fascist and self interested organisation. The only reason the Vatican exists in its current form today is because in 1929 Mussolini gave them the city back in exchange for making his government look legitimate.

Never going to be a good day when the first thing you have to do is write to your MP to complain about their participation in a pointless culture war.

Some great non-fiction books managers should be reading in an AI first world: * A Deepness in the Sky * Rainbow's End * Accelerando * The Diamond Age

LLMs are just speed running western philosophy. Tokenization: applied Saussure. RLHF: applied Wittgenstein. RAG: applied Derrida. Synthetic data: applied Baudrillard. Eventually we'll need AI reincarnated Zizek to debug anything.

Boo all you want, the power loom didn't care about many children you feed it and neither does AI.

this graduation speech moment is notable, and her amazed shock at having failed to read the room feels instructive. when you're inside the bubble, you think everybody else is. but everybody isn't.

It was the 69th anniversary of McCarthy's death last weekend but I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

BREAKING: “We will now expect universities to publish the scale of the problem on their campuses as well as the specific steps they have taken to clamp down on it. There will be zero tolerance for inaction” Keir Starmer is hosting No 10 summit to tackle antisemitism

Doesn't need to be exponential decline to be feasible on price. 10x cheaper in the next couple of years is probably pretty likely even. Maybe 30x cheaper per token by 2030.

Marcus Hutchins@malwaretech.com

Then every AI proponent I talk to about this just come up with some insane napkin math where token costs keep decreasing exponentially forever. It feels as if the entire industry is basically operating on some insane Moore's law hypothesis where everything just becomes free... 6/6

We are terrible at actually banning stuff. We just find ways to obfuscate the thing. Human cloning is mostly just regular cloning. Dazzlers exist and can trivially be made to blind by cranking the power up. No there was a 6 month voluntary moratorium.

Dare Obasanjo@carnage4life.bsky.social

This is a reason that Anthropic’s warnings ring hollow. It appears hypocritical to constantly warn that AI will lead to mass layoffs while building the leading tool(s) driving mass layoffs in the software industry. There is no “human cloning is bad but we’re the top human cloning company” CEO on TV

In 6 months I have gone from "that's a cool party trick" to "I don't type code anymore" to "what even is being a software engineer now?"

Why does Gemini API usage show up in the cloud console as "Custom Search" (an entirely different product) and why do none of the API usage graphs work? I just want to know what I am giving you money for.

You are up to date.
