Go see Wildwood. Seriously, don’t wait—go see Wildwood. What a piece of art. The love for the manual craft, for story that doesn’t hold back, for filmmaking that is not here to answer to stockholders, it weaves all through it. Incredible stuff.

Hey folks, added Car Park Capital to my Steam Curator, an absurd and brilliant satire of car culture with a nice isometric artstyle, feels like the kind of game Bullfrog would've made at their peak, jammed somewhere between Theme Hospital and Dungeon Keeper, except you play even more of a villain.

Bethesda’s greatest contribution to Fallout is putting an radio in the Pipboy and various people in wasteland with AM radio towers, for diegetic source of music and narration, even if it means we almost never hear the actual fallout sound tracks anymore.

Ok more fallout posting that nobody asked for. When fallout 4 came out I was in a bad place……South Carolina. And couldn’t help but wonder how SC fared in fallout. Canonically I don’t think there much to go on, which means I got make up my own. So here’s my pitch.

In the setting of game there would be mystery people being taken. Lots folks disappearing without a trace even by wasteland standards. Some people say it’s some sort mutant creature attacks, others blame the super mutants and some suspect a grant conspiracy.

While in universe it’s not wildly known, but Super Mutants don’t occur naturally, even radioactive wasteland, they are intentionally created. So where do all of Holy City’s super mutants come from…I wonder.

Soda City and Holy city are bitter rivals but are economically linked by the trade on the New Santee river, formed by the failure of the Lake Moultrie damn. They locked their own little Cold War. Holy unassailable due be deep in the glow country and Soda city having frankly ridiculous number

..of power armor suites and small arms from Fort Jackson (which prewar was the U.S.’s primary infantry training base) making is conquest a tall order. So they coexist uneasily, along with smaller settlement of escaped supermutants to north in the Settlement of Greenville, former Greenville, SC.

The ghoul run town of Holy City. Former Charleston, SC. Much of the Holy cities elite are pre-war ghouls though they prefer to call themselves antebellum. According to them the intense radiation protects them from base human raiders, which allowed them to focus on rebuilding, thus are so well off.

The only problems they have are with supermutants, but have several battles they have beaten and “civilized” the the supermutants putting them to useful work on there rad-rice plantations. They are quick point that they aren’t slaves, rather prisoners with jobs as they were all once raiders.

Irradiating the costly areas to degree not else where is the wasteland. The whole area is now just known as “The Glow County” and is uninhabitable by non-mutated humans. One the edge of this resides the largest human settlement in the former SC, Soda City (a CAPital place to be).

This the remains of Columbia, SC which IRL locals contact to COLA and the city in fact uses both that nick name and slogan IRL. In the wasteland it it has pretentious at being a major trading hub, but in reality they glorified rest stop for most traders going to there rival settlement.

IRL SC have way more nuclear investment than you’d think. 3x national average on nuclear. Home to the nuclear sub fleet, the Savanna river site, were much US nuclear arsenal was made, nuclear fuel manufacturing facilities, and one the few operational low-level radioactive waste dumps.

So in the Great War it’s probably going to especially fucked with all those strategic nuclear assets in the states. A prevailing easterly wind on October 23 2077 carries the fallout from the nukes industrial reactors of the Savanna river site and it poorly secured silos of process waste…

(sound on for full effect) Chapman State Park near Clarendon, PA is home to Chapman Lake, which is home to a group of energetic North American river otters (Lontra canadensis) that like to host a midnight rave / leaf frolic. Not sure where they plug the speakers in.

I’ve been on a kick of playing Fallout 4 again in large part due to the recent updates to SIM Settlements and interesting new settings in Fallout that could explored. I remember in the past friend saying they like to see one outside the US. Which don’t think would work, or at least I wouldn’t

Like I’d imagine pre-war Britain would in the Fallout Universe would look very different to anything we seen in the game so far. Given the settings deep roots ray run era scifi, dystopic themes it would probably hew closer British dystopic fiction like 1984 and Brave New World.

Of course part of Fallout’s formula is also zanny humor. Basically, I’m saying that in the Fallout setting Britain would be Terry Gilliam’s Brazil.

trust Bethesda to not butcher the idea by shoving power armor, super mutants, and everything else in the franchise in that location. So much the setting is based on aesthetic of 1950’s Americana, that it wouldn’t be difficult to make it recognizable Fallout with white washing the whole setting.

I’m doing my on-line training for being poll worker. This bit about how to apply tape to the signs correctly is killing me. There is ongoing drama about some polling places can’t be trusted to use the tape correctly.

Today was bad day at work. One of post-doc got angry at me for suggesting they clean up their shit in common work area and isn’t talking to me. And has probably complained about me to the boss.

I was the only, ONLY, outed queer kid in my highschool. After I graduated, three separate people came out. I'll forgive them...eventually. Still senior year prom king, tho. 👑
