Right in time for #smFRET’s 30th anniversary, DyeCycling enables true single-molecule kinetic analysis, revealing hidden heterogeneities and even time-variant kinetic changes of individual molecules.

The trick is to harness reversibly binding fluorescent probes – and their cumulative photon budgets – rather than single dyes whose bleaching terminates the observation immediately. High SNR is retained through efficient nanophotonic background suppression, demonstrated using DNA & protein systems.

#scientists, take a second to fully appreciate the @pdbeurope.bsky.social and @rcsbpdb.bsky.social and imagine live without them.

By 2028, all 4-character PDB IDs will be exhausted. After that, all new entries will receive extended IDs: 12 characters total, formatted as pdb_ + 8 alphanumeric characters (pdb_1000axyz) Test it from PDB Beta Archive Read more: www.wwpdb.org/news/news?ye...

What a unique experience to lecture at #SeniorenUni @unibas.ch today – freely translated title: Molecules in gallop – getting 'personal' with the molecules of life. We filled the big aula 2x with 55+ers up to >80y-olds plus 100more online! All of them so genuinely curious! Truly touching! 🤝...

...people hugely differing in age, backgrounds, education... A real challenge for me, but how eager they were to learn & how #grateful! Heartwarming to hear the metaphors (🍝,🍯,🐎,📻 for #FRET, 🐘&🐜 for #nanopores,...) helped them to understand, and even inspired them to think further. We discussed...

...the molecules of life, how they feel in the cell, up to #single-molecule exp. & apps... Questions were also exciting😅 from: "how can you truly get single molecules?" to: "what metaphysical thoughts do you have?" All genuine questions. #sciComm – so rewarding – didnt expect that! 🤝 Thank you!

Switzerland is joining Horizon Europe! We are uniting two research powerhouses. For cutting-edge innovation that will boost our energy security, digital transformation, health and so much more. Today is a good day for science, and for our EU-Switzerland partnership.

Early rise for me today (3:45 😱) to get in time to our #Nanopore consortium meeting with #GiovanniMaglia & @ceesdekker.bsky.social groups at Amsterdam airport. So curious about their newest results! 🤩 We approached in style: ✈️ flying over Dutch (modern) windmills... Beautiful – even for train fans.

Single-molecule friends! The prelim. program of next year's sm- #Gordon conference in Switzerland is online: www.grc.org/single-molec... It'll be 3x fantastic: science, people, place in the alps ⛰️. Kevin & I hope to see you all next June: Have a look, tell your friends, and register!
