The interaction was necrotrophic mycoparasitism in tested isolates. It is a lab observation, not evidence of a safe vineyard biocontrol method.

Source: Mycological Progress, DOI 10.1007/s11557-026-02159-7. Surfaced through a Scollr scan of newly published research. #FungalBiology #PlantPathology #Mycology #GrapevineScience #ScienceReels

A new study documents Diaporthe eres, a fungus linked to grapevine dieback, invading other grapevine-associated fungi. Microscopy captured hyphae meeting, curling around, and penetrating rival colonies.

Those aggregates may move carbon downward, but the global estimates are modeled and the work is still a preprint. It does not prove durable sequestration or a ready climate intervention.

That does not mean the crops became universally salt-tolerant. Some crop establishment was still suppressed, and the result is specific to the tested soils and treatments.

This fills a missing step in the tested petunia pathway. It does not mean every flower makes scent the same way.

Source: Nature Communications, DOI 10.1038/s41467-026-75494-8. Surfaced through a Scollr scan of newly published research. #PlantBiology #Petunia #FloralScent #Biochemistry #ScienceReels

A new petunia study identifies two closely related enzymes that make benzyl alcohol, a compound connected to floral scent and one salicylic-acid pathway. The researchers also found that related enzymes can sit in different cellular compartments across plant species.

This is an emerging manufacturing direction, not evidence that routine orbital circuit production is already available.

A new review maps the physics of printing electronics in microgravity. Jetting, droplet transfer, evaporation, and particle deposition can all shift when gravity stops dominating the ink, changing how conductive thin films form.

A photonic chip just learned to read handwriting without running its errors backward, the way most optical AI training works. Instead, each layer adjusts itself locally with a bio-inspired rule. On a real spatial-light-modulator chip: 95% accuracy on handwritten digits and clothing images.

Source: Light: Science & Applications, 2026-07-06, DOI 10.1038/s41377-026-02394-3. One lab-scale chip on benchmark datasets, not shown to beat standard AI hardware or deployed anywhere. Scollr scan. #OpticalComputing #NeuromorphicEngineering #PhotonicChip #MachineLearning #ScienceReels

A new lab model kept living human bone marrow working outside the body for six weeks. Donor cells sat in a 3D chip with a porous scaffold and constant fluid flow. Inside, bone was actively built and broken down, and immune cells stayed resident instead of dying off.

Source: 2026 Advanced Science paper, a 3D human bone and bone marrow on a chip model for in vitro bone remodeling and immune cell maintenance, DOI 10.1002/advs.202518224. A lab model, not a treatment. Scollr scan. #OrganOnAChip #TissueEngineering #BoneBiology #ImmuneSystem #ScienceReels

A soft robot can switch its swimming style by changing its stiffness. A July 2026 lab prototype uses pneumatic pressure to go from forward flapping to a softer wriggle for tight spaces. Early soft-robotics research, not a deployed marine device. DOI: 10.1002/aisy.70471 #SoftRobotics

A critically endangered coral, Diploria labyrinthiformis, drifts as a free swimming larva before choosing a spot on the reef to settle for good. In a St. Croix field study, researchers played recordings of a healthy reef soundscape near the larvae. Settlement rates nearly doubled close to the sound.

First evidence that sound shapes settlement in a broadcast spawning coral. One species, one field site, published in Scientific Reports July 6 2026. DOI 10.1038/s41598-026-54431-1. Scollr scan. #MarineBiology #CoralReefs #OceanScience #AcousticEcology #ScienceReels

This sea slug drifts upside down at the ocean's surface its whole life. Glaucilla marginata, the blue dragon nudibranch, uses an air bubble in its stomach to stay pinned to the air-water interface, and arms itself by stealing stinging cells from the venomous prey it eats.

A 2025 stranding at Karon Beach gave researchers a first microbiome sample from Glaucilla marginata. The 2026 PeerJ study found unusually low bacterial richness. One stranding, one species. DOI 10.7717/peerj.21462. Scollr scan. #MarineBiology #Nudibranch #GlaucillaMarginata #Microbiome #OceanScience

A cross-section of the olfactory bulb glows with clusters of glomeruli, the brain's first stop for sorting smell signals. A 2026 eNeuro study tracked the cells that do that sorting with two-photon imaging and found they rewire depending on how an odor is experienced.

Passive exposure compressed those cells' responses. Active discrimination learning expanded them instead. One cell type, one relay, in mice. eNeuro, June 2026, DOI 10.1523/eneuro.0171-26.2026. Scollr paper scan. #Neuroscience #OlfactoryBulb #NeuralPlasticity

A green cloud forming in the water is not just cells drifting together. When live foreign bacteria show up nearby, Synechocystis cyanobacteria can clump into a floating floc wrapped in extracellular gel, and cells inside end up harder for a predator to reach than cells left alone.

A 2026 ISME Communications paper: adding Pseudomonas aeruginosa to Synechocystis co-cultures triggered flocculation and cut attack/lysis versus solo cells. DOI 10.1093/ismejo/wrag169. One lab system, not every bloom. Scollr paper scan. #Cyanobacteria #Microbiology #BacterialDefense

A drop of liquid metal sits inside a soft channel. Add a small voltage and its surface tension shifts right at the boundary. A 2026 Advanced Functional Materials paper found that boundary shift is enough to amplify the flow the droplet can drive, no extra moving parts.

Prototype physics on one EGaIn system, not finished hardware. Paper: Electrocapillary Modulated Interfacial Tension Amplifies Liquid Metal Transduction (Advanced Functional Materials, June 2026, DOI 10.1002/adfm.76397). Scollr paper scan. #MaterialsScience #LiquidMetal #SoftRobotics #Microfluidics

A new AUV survey read the seafloor's magnetic signal instead of just its shape. Fresh lava flows, collapsed lava lakes, and cracked voids on the East Pacific Rise each showed a different magnetic low, letting researchers tell them apart and spot a small hydrothermal field nearby.

One AUV survey, one ridge segment, not every mid-ocean ridge. Paper: High-Resolution Magnetic Signature of Lava Flows, a Hydrothermal Field and Fossil Lava Lakes (JGR, June 2026, DOI 10.1029/2025JB033127). Scollr paper scan. #MarineGeology #Oceanography #DeepSeaScience

A tiny ostracod gets attacked and flashes blue. A 2026 preprint asks what the predator learns from that. The light appears after the attack, not before. Lab experiments found predatory fish became less likely to consume luminescent cypridinid ostracods after repeated exposure.

One prey group, one lab predator. How this scales in open water is not yet known. Paper: Aposematic signals are dynamic over time in bioluminescent ostracods (preprint, June 2026, DOI 10.64898/2026.06.22.733700). Scollr paper scan. #MarineBiology #Bioluminescence #MarineEcology #AnimalBehavior

Cuttlebone gets a lot from architecture. A 2026 materials paper uses sequential freeze-casting to grow crossing ice-templated channels inside aerogels, programming cuttlebone-like anisotropy in a lab proof-of-concept. Not a finished product yet. #MaterialsScience #Aerogels

Pour a polymer solution and the spreading front slows differently. Viscosity resists the advance. Surface tension pushes back at the edge. A 2026 JFM paper validates asymptotic theory mapping the balance. One confined geometry, one fluid class. #FluidMechanics #NonNewtonianFluid #FluidDynamics
