Reading for 2026: Dumas - The count of Monte Cristo. It's really good. consistent page turner despite the length. The most recent Penguin translation is excellent. It zips along, without the ornate nature of the 19th century translation. More complex than it gets credit for when abridged as a kids'

Little seen British comedy is about to be shown on Film 4. The ITV2 film preservation scheme saw the original print saved for the nation and now Hot Fuzz can be seen by all

heard a thing the other day about Leone Ross and she sounded a very interesting novelist. Anyone read her that could give me a sense of the best place to start?

What is this Hot Fuzz of which you speak? It ia so obscure that I have never heard of it. By the title, I imagine it is some philosophical musings centred on the staff of a barbershop in a warm climate somewhere; maybe the Caribbean?

In the 1950s, portrait photographer Philippe Halsman would ask his subjects to jump in the air so they would loosen up for subsequent shots. Among Halsman's subjects was Judge Learned Hand, then in his 80s. The request resulted in the photo below. smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture...

I have excellent taste and as such the music I listen to is absolutely brilliant so why wouldn’t everybody want to hear it anyway?
