Okay, this is genuinely a good bit

OBAMA: He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory. It's gold everywhere.

Honestly the best description of Julia Child's qualifications.

Ken Klippenstein@kenklippenstein.bsky.social

CIA releases new promo video: "It has been said that the CIA's World War II predecessor, the OSS, described its ideal recruit as, quote, 'A PhD who could win a bar fight.' This sentiment is the essence of what today's CIA must recapture."

Generate nonsense platitudes and not show up at the office? Sounds like the perfect job for AI. Just need to teach it golf.

dan solomon@dansolomon.com

idk maybe a lot of companies could do just fine with an ai ceo? somebody should probably fire himself to try it

Calling it now: the AI rename will be dutifully followed by companies, and it will massively backfire. Hard to imagine a way to turn off people more than pushing a rename of something they already felt overwhelmed by.

To restaurants/foodtrucks who use AI for menus: do you think the food looks good, and do you not own a phone with a camera on it?

When this is over, NASA has a great pool to hire rover drivers from.

🇺🇦 A Ukrainian UGV (unmanned ground vehicle) flipped another overturned UGV back onto its wheels, allowing both vehicles to continue their mission.

As much discourse as there is about how polarized we've become by party, I don't think we talk enough about how extreme the gap in gender voting habits since 2016 is.

dan solomon@dansolomon.com

second-most interesting: for small-town/suburban voters, there is a 26-point swing from paxton to talarico by gender! a whole lot of husbands may be surprised to hear who their wives plan to vote for

Hot take: the death of access journalism might be the only thing that saves it.

A british man who is an English prescriptivist. A rare one y'all

👻 Jack Djinn Wail 🧞@jacktindale.bsky.social

Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.

Dozens of jobs! Dozens! (And less every year as automation and scaling tech progresses)

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

Seriously we are probably less than a year away from a data warehouse company boasting how their data centers are run by one person. In Shanghai.

"The flyovers containue until someone is maimed and we remember why we have rules." (Who am I kidding, it's when there is property damage)

Justin Baragona@justinbaragona.bsky.social

This is what you get when you make a Fox News weekend morning host the head of your defense department.

Trump opens a chain of gas stations, immediately bombs the middle east, spiking prices. Coincidence? Maybe. Profitable? Certainly

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

the average price of gas when Biden left office was $3.12. Trump wants to throw a parade for himself over one station where it's $3.47.

That's what you're calling a ship transiting SoH!? 😳

Shipwreck@shipwreck75.bsky.social

A Saudi-flagged crude oil tanker was damaged near the Strait of Hormuz off Oman after a Qatari liquefied natural gas tanker was struck in the same area. The cause of the blast was not known, and the crude tanker was believed to be the supertanker Wedyan, the sources said.-Reuters

When you've been calling the center-right Democratic Party "marxists, socialist, and communist" for decades, how is this strategy supposed to work now? I think far-right punditry has painted itself into a corner and I hope the new Dems roll them. (but I'm not optimistic)

Justin Baragona@justinbaragona.bsky.social

lol come on now Isabel Brown: "What we saw in Colorado yesterday mirrors... this lurch to the left -- even further for the Democrat Party -- embracing the radical ideas of socialism. This is the Mamdani effect. Here in Virginia, where I currently live, it's the Abigail Spanberger effect."

What's old is new again. I remember when in the early 90s AI research was rebranded "Machine Learning" because people thought "Artificial Intelligence" sounded creepy and it was hurting grant funding. For a brief moment AI was back and the sexiest thing. Now serious researchers are retreating to ML.

I expect the text of the Iran MOU will be released Friday to create a buying day on the stock market for rich people, then some vague progress announced over the weekend to cash in Monday with the hopium bump.

Insiders will be warned Thursday I'm guessing. If you are ever looking for why this regime is doing anything, stock market manipulation is usually a decent lens. The text hasn't been released yet because they are still riding the wave of hope.

THIS is how I learn Brandon and Riverview aren't real cities?!

Ethan@ethanhamm.bsky.social

Someone made a chart of where in America the highest concentrations of each team's diaspora pop live and Massachusetts is well represented!

Nothing says "open" like sneaking by in the dark of night with an armed escort.

Shipwreck@shipwreck75.bsky.social

US Interior Sec. Burgum reports Navy vessels are providing nighttime escorts for maritime traffic. Over 20 ships navigated the strait under this protection on select nights.

Honest question: (and I know this is probably 100% FUD, but) is there actually any evidence this is happening at all. I know when I lived in a community with a lot of migrant workers, they all lived in homes/duplexes owned by white landlords

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

HUD Secretary Scott Turner on CNBC: "Houses for American people are taken by those who are not here legally"

Is it even feasible to buy a home as an undocumented person? Can you even get a bank loan? Does the head of HUD know how people buy homes in the US?

This is just the general vibe of living in DC since 2025. Welcome to the misery. All joys tainted by rot.

Matthew Gertz@mattgertz.bsky.social

We should have immaculate vibes and a rocking Garden at tip off, instead we’re going to have fans straggling in throughout the first quarter.

The people who think that everything real is AI and those who think everything AI is real are the same people. That Venn diagram is a circle.

The re-erecting of Confederate statues are a wholly different and pernicious act compared to just leaving them up. Politicians can wave off, disingenuously, decades old statues as part of the landscape. "It's always been there!" (it hasn't tho). But putting one back up? That's a choice.
