Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

Not ONE "resident" of ANY of the towns that have had data centers forced upon them has EVER expressed any happiness whatsoever about these things. Meanwhile, town hall meetings are packed with angry residents who hate them. I am so sick of their insane lies.

Must be why those city council and county commissioner meetings are filled with supportive residents across the political spectrum before and after a data center goes in /s

Later: if you take puppies and blend them into a smoothie and add the blood of innocents you get a healthy high protein snack. Obviously I’m joking and being sarcastic. Just in case.

Exactly what AI would say. I miss the days when we didn't know corporations were paying our politicians to help them get richer. Now, they pay them so well that they openly spread the deceitful propaganda like paid spokespeople.

The constructions jobs are gone as soon as it’s built. There aren’t many workers at data centers. They produce nothing. They aren’t taxed. They are a waste of time and space. They are poison. I don’t see the positives.

building trades boom for a year, and when those jobs move on to the next victim, community members will bear the burdens of higher energy costs, significant harm to quality of life, and depletion of natural resources (water and breatheable air)

I long for the day when there will be accountability. When telling the truth becomes valued again. When our country has morals. When we care about people. I long for the day of accountability, but I'm afraid I will die before that day comes.

More like no jobs, no potable water, rolling blackouts, and toxic exposure so corporations thousands of miles away can run AI and displace thousands of city residents who used to make things also become unemployed. I doubt these urban refugees will be in a position to buy houses anywhere.

So a bunch of ppl get hired to build the data center. These newly employed families who are building the data center buy houses and are so happy ...until 5 years from now when the data center is complete. Now what?

There’re tons of data centers in my area & very large scale ones farther out. Not one of them took > 1 year to build, get wired, get water coolant plumbing, etc; and most owners know the building contractors they will pick for the job. They don’t even help the local economy short term.

Temporary construction jobs don't help the economy of a place, if anything they crowd it with extra money causing inflation until those jobs disappear

I keep looking for the pullstring on his back and it does bring to mind that when these people are prosecuted for all of the lawbreaking that they have done, maybe we need to build a prison next to a data center, so they can all enjoy the benefits of living next to one.

Bro the whole point behind data centers is they are computer servers, they don't need to employ a lot of people. Most data centers employ between 20 and 100 people. That is not a lot of people to make a community thriving!

Ah yes, all those data centers hiring hundreds of people who...center data all day. Just wearing their smart jumpsuits, centering all that data...while small town Americans embrace them with the love for growth and change they're famous for.

And when it’s proven that this guy is lying, and your small town gets destroyed - NO new jobs, all resources depleted - can we hang him up by his big toes until he dies? NO! Because he’ll be off somewhere hiding and counting his money.

'£1–£5 billion AI facility may only employ 150–300 permanent staff. Operations & facilities engineers – 30–40% IT & network technicians – 20–30% Management & administration – 10–15% Security, cleaning, catering & other support – 10–25%' Hardly enough to boost local economies especially as

How does NO DRINKING WATER, along with sky high electric bills make that sleepy little town better.. and what very few higher paying jobs are created, are REMOTE WORKERS in an office space far away. Much of those jobs too are OFFSHORE like India. FK THIS REGIME

It is very ironic that you are saying you don't need data centres alongside an AI slop image. Well done.

Dear Mr Hasset. Data Centres are shite for towns because they overwhelmingly contribute to climate change by consuming electricity generated by fossil fuels, and they pollute so much water that very little can be filtered and recycled. But you keep on being the Trumpist shill that you are.

"Bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that." And jack up the property tax rate for all residents. NOBODY benefits when McMansions start popping up in rural towns. Hassett is a lying or ignorant asshole.

I was about to say "At least Harold Hill had a couple of redeeming qualities", but if his whole motive for getting close to Marian was purely practical, and rooted in the misogynistic attitude that women are simple, sexual creatures who are easily preyed upon.

Datacenters are largely automated and operate "lights out" with few people, Hassett. Do us all a favor and go back to teaching students to be arrogant and uninformed at Columbia.

And did anyone ask this moron how many people it takes to run a data center? Surprise, surprise .... Maybe a 1/10th of a similar size brick & mortar business

What is the source of this? I know it's wrong because i know a tech billionaire who lives across the street from a building that has a DC ive used. I don't think people understand how many DCs there are woven into every city. Some of them are core internet infrastructure.

Yep, this post is just something someone pulled out of their ass. These DCs are all through every city. The biggest ones get the panic, but resources wise, i doubt they are the issue. My citys most expensive condos and homes are under a mile from a dc, about 3miles from massive DCs.

And the building shits out $100 bills and hour for the locals to pay for the ridiculous electricity bills and to build themselves water farms to pull from the air what is no longer in the local aquafers. Modify the Alaska model. Pay for the impacts.

It will be so great that all republican cities will be created around them. Maga will have the best high paying jobs and amazingly beautiful homes. Kids will grow up smarter and healthier. Democrats & independents are DEI and not allowed anywhere near data centers. GORK said they destroy things.

Honestly, between him, Nosferatu (Miller), and everyone else this is an admin of vampires. It's just most are monetary vampires sucking the lifeblood out of the economy.

Exactly. Data centers use millions of gallons of water a day, taking water from the community. Sometimes ALL the water. Noise pollution and water pollution that data centers can cause destroy the peace, quiet, and healthy living in any community. Water & power costs increase. #Trump'sGift

Thank you for that excellent comparison! I believe that is a big part of the resistance to data centers in places like parts of PA. Fool me once... Fool me twice? Won't get fooled again!

It's not and I don't understand why everyone is in mass agreement. Hydro-fracking depletes a non-renewable resource while modern data centers typically use recycled water.

Specifically name 15 high paying jobs located AT A DATA CENTER? These places store servers, not humans. WE ARE NOT STUPID!!!

This is a lie. There’s an initial boost from construction work, but long term employment is measured in the dozens and isn’t particularly high paying. The high paying jobs can be done remotely. The actual jobs are hands on technicians and cleaning staff.

Even the cleaning is done by robots. Meanwhile, residents and wildlife (!) lives are disrupted by noise, light, and higher water and electric bills. VA electricity bills are going up 25%! Plus they are paving over prime farmland in many cases.

And many of the construction jobs are out of towners traveling from data center to data center and collecting per diem for their six month gig, leaving with their $200k in earnings as soon as the job is done.

“Bring people [or investors] in with high incomes that can buy houses [and gentrify neighborhoods reducing supply for local residents who are not “high income] & stuff like that."

Data Centers make rich pricks like Kevin Hassett $$ while they live in ivory towers elsewhere. They fuck over everyone else, especially those who live where a data center is being erected. Lying asshole!!

Data centers create a temporary environment for construction jobs. Once built. A handful of low wage security jobs exist along with a handful of techs running it. Not the job creators they are billed to be.

Happy residents whose real estate gets scooped up by the wealthy…? This Keebler is the worst. Past hits like “Credit card spending is UP!” Ya, people are charging for their food and sundry items cuz there’s no income to cover price hikes. Two years is gonna be a lifetime. A second lifetime. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Who have to purchase bottled water because their natural water sources are all contaminated. Oh, and because of the poor management of 🍊🤡 FDA, there’s no guarantee that the bottled water isn’t contaminated. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I drove by the location where a new data center is being built. Every house in the vicinity has No Data Center signs. Unfortunately the deal was done before residents could do anything about it. The land developers are getting sneaky about buying the land, too, burying the details in LLCs.

Not only are they hiding the initial company name (in one local case here, Google), but they are making city administrators sign NDSs so they can't tell residents! I say 'can't' but they could, if they refused to sign. But they want the $$. Then they give tax breaks! Makes no sense.

Employees/KW it's a horrible industry. Then you look at the AI data centers that are killing jobs in tech companies because they need less employees. I'm sure many AI data centers are used to create porn anyway. The net benefit? Not so good.
