Justin Trudeau, "Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada. Their closest partner and ally, their closest friend" "At the same time, they're talking about working positively with Russia, appeasing Vladimir Putin. A lying murderous dictator" "Make that makes sense"

The Effective Altruism bros have come to a conclusion about saving shrimp, and it's shocking how they've forgotten that the first rule of logic isn't "if you can argue something obviously false using logic, then it must be true". Check your axioms lads.

Just reminded of the "Scully Effect" - that girls who watched the X-files were more likely to pursue careers in science- but this ignores the bigger "Mulder Effect" which inspired a whole generation of young men to become socially awkward porn addicted conspiracy theorists.

I can’t stop thinking about this brilliant New York Times scoop (gift link) in large part because it’s the first one of these stories where I’ve gone “my god, that worked on me!”: I really thought that ‘It Ends With Us’ had been a commercial failure, & that Reynolds & Lively had failed to boost it.

nytimes.comBlake Lively, Justin Baldoni and a Smear Campaign After ‘It Ends With Us’ (Gift Article)Private messages detail an alleged campaign to tarnish Blake Lively after she accused Justin Baldoni of misconduct on the set of “It Ends With Us.”

I got to thinking that laws should be designed to protect society, not individuals, and had rather hoped that this was some amazing insight on my part, rather than something partly remembered. I guess it's something partly remembered.

Well I admit it. The number of death threats BlueSky users like to send to people they don't like is kind of spoiling the place for me. Y'all are quite comfortable with the murder of ideological opponents aren't you. Kinder, nicer, my arse.

I think stuff like this (The actual Tankie stuff, not the observation) is what'll drive me away from BlueSky. Just way too many people making twee euphemisms about murdering other people. The whole site is full of cowards who would love to see their ideological enemies murdered by someone else.

New idiom observed in the wild: “To see Luigi,” as in “genteel US transphobe columnist-podcasters who coordinate with K*w*F*rms deserve to see Luigi.” (Note: Reminiscent of, but distinct from, the PRC idiom 见马克思, q.v.)

Classic "Doesn't she look tired" from O'Brien. I guess making stuff up is OK if you're "imagining it".

There's a growing sense of pathos around Kemi Badenoch. She's clearly constructed a self-image of toughness & ruthlessness - you can imagine her shouting at her own reflection about how hard she is - to protect herself from perfectly normal feelings of vulnerability & fear. It's unlikely to end well

Version control software is not thát hard ya’ll. Just takes a bit of reading and the occasional bit of internet searching, or someone taking you through it once. I’ve taught team members to use GIT over a dozen times now. It’s more than doable.
