I’ve been a MaxFun member since at least 2015 and I’m almost sure since earlier than that. Instead of selling to a giant company, Jesse converted MaxFun to a worker-owned network a while ago. It is, quite simply, the kind of thing we need more of in this world.

Before the small Mt. Airy, protest yesterday. Great energy. Smaller crowd than last time, but nearby Chestnut Hill's event attracted most who would have otherwise come 5o Mt. Airy. Still several hundred people; not bad for a protest that wasn't even listed on the No Kings website.

About 1,000 people at today's No Kings protest in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia. One of several satellite events in the city; the main one is orders of magnitude bigger. Amazing energy from the crowd and drivers!

I have a two year old and the forecast calls for snow tomorrow at the closest Tesla dealership to me in King of Prussia, PA. I'm still going to be out there tomorrow. Join us when and how you can; it's vitally important.

“At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never!" 1/3

"At what point then is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us, it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher."

"All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.” 2/3

I finally deleted Facebook. It's been about ten years since I've used it for fun, but I'd kept it assuming it'd be useful to have for a job, keeping in touch, maybe the Craigslist clone, Marketplace, whatever. Seemed like, even if the platform was visibly cratering, it was worth keeping a presence.

Anyway. You all likely know this if you're here. I encourage you, if you're like I'd been, for the past decade, to just cancel the fucking thing. Don't participate. Request to have your activity (photos, etc.) archived and available for you to download. Make a last post explaining your decision.

And since then, it's been a steady downhill shamble. These days, the company's founder has gone all-in on the Trump administration's fascism, with changes to his website's policy that explicitly allow attacks on people who're also being made more vulnerable by their own government. It's dirty.

Over time, there were indications that it wasn't all as rosy at it seemed, on its surface. Early on, I recall reading something about how this new website was valued at more than Ford--and wasn't that incredible?

This framing is so grim. Killing a homeless man who threatened several subway riders at knifepoint: overdue street justice; good on you. Killing a millionaire CEO who presided over the deaths of many patients, denied care by the company he helped lead: "chilling".

You are up to date.
