"[NYPD] was one of the first to create a specific policy around the shooting of moving vehicles in the 1970s, in the aftermath of the killing of an 11-year-old boy ... [NYPD] has had notable shootings of moving vehicles since the policy was adopted, including Sean Bell, who [NYPD] shot 50 times[.]"

The Marshall Project@themarshallproject.org

The shooting used tactics that law enforcement agencies have discouraged for decades because of the danger they present to officers and the public. These types of shootings are increasingly familiar scenarios to immigrant rights advocates across the country www.themarshallproject.org/2026/10/09/n...

Winners generally write history, but sometimes history has a way of resurrecting buried legacies. In "Here Where We Live Is Our Country," Molly Crabapple has unearthed an important part of the democratic socialist tradition. https://dissentmagazine.org/article/jewish-bund-book-review/

Surprising fact: We are actually NOT seeing more food recalls this year compared with recent years. What we’re seeing is an increase in the number of illnesses caused by contaminated food. This is the largest ever cyclospora outbreak & third-largest foodborne illness outbreak of any kind on record.

Hey it's me, Sonic the Hedgehog! Is America truly free if police routinely harass and murder people of color for simply existing in public spaces? Are we free to pursue happiness if millions of people are one missed paycheck or hospital visit away from homelessness? Liberty and Justice for who?

"As corporations drape themselves in rainbow capitalism and politicians make calculated gestures of inclusion, we’ve forgotten the very people who need our solidarity most: incarcerated LGBTQAI+ individuals trapped in America’s carceral system."

The sentences handed down today in Texas are a threat to the possibility of a democratic society. The prosecution is rife with constitutional violations, but 30 years in prison (more than anyone for January 6) for moving some magazines? 50 years for those not involved in even planning the protest?

Being pro-Israel is bad policy and bad politics, Rep. Dan Goldman! 📢 DUMP DAN GOLDMAN! Get out and vote TODAY! Polls close at 9 PM! #NY10

Hell yeah. Don't let bosses convince you that you don't deserve more. Don't let someone who hoards $100 million tell you that working people don't deserve $100,000. Instead organize and get yours.

Union hotel housekeepers in New York City will soon make over $100,000 a year. A new contract the union and the owners of nearly 250 hotels would raise wages by more than 50%. If workers ratify the deal it'll mean life-changing money for 27,000 union members and their families.

Anything that has purchase with people—anything they value or care about—can be leveraged or exploited by someone seeking to build their own power. There’s not a single word we can coin that won’t eventually be used against us. This is why building an analysis of power itself is vital.

Is the Pope a Marxist? Kinda yeah. Pope Leo isn’t just an anti-Trump avatar. He’s channeling a much richer and deeper tradition of liberation theology to stand against poverty, war, and oppression. It’s an approach a lot of people around the word could learn from. www.jphilll.com/is-the-pope-...

This bill is an important first step towards cracking down on predatory pricing schemes, but fully regulating dynamic and surveillance pricing means going further. Maryland and every other state still have work to do to regulate promotional offers, loyalty programs, and temporary discounts. /1

BREAKING: Maryland is about to become the first state in the nation to ban the use of surveillance data and dynamic pricing at grocery stores. The Maryland House has just passed the Protection from Predatory Pricing Act. Governor Wes Moore plans to sign the bill.

Warehouses on fire, Molotov thrown at Sam Altman’s house, a data center supporting politician’s home shot at — attacks on the ruling class have begun. Every attacker will now be deemed a terrorist, that’s inevitable. But what the ruling class doesn’t want you to know is they made this inevitable.

The greed is wild. Apple is worth nearly $4 trillion but can't tolerate a single store with unionized workers because they're so against workers getting what they deserve.

Apple is closing down the first of its US stores to unionize. Apple says that because of the collective bargaining agreement with these workers, they "couldn’t offer to transfer them to nearby locations.” The union is outraged, and exploring options to hold Apple accountable.

Wonderful to see Joshua explain, to a large and ideologically aligned audience, the petrodollar: how it's helped fund US imperialism, how it's helped reproduce US political hegemony, and how the current threat to its existence may help create conditions for more effectively fighting against both.

The Iran war is destroying US hegemony. Iran is using this moment to dismantle a key pillar of US power — the petrodollar. For the last 50 years nearly all oil has been purchased in dollars. But Iran and China are starting to kill off this pillar of the US empire. www.jphilll.com/the-war-agai...
