@scottmccloud.bsky.social I’d love to hear your thoughts on both this specific museum and on the idea of “narrative art” as an umbrella that incorporates comics, storyboards, and other types of illustrations.

The Atlantic@theatlantic.com

George Lucas’s latest project—a new museum bringing together comics, illustrations, storyboards, and other forms of “narrative art”—is an otherworldly temple to storytelling, James Parker writes.

My personal reaction was it’s might be nice to have an umbrella term that includes both comics and single-panel illustrations (like your example of The Family Circus), other than the art style (cartoon).

Suggestion: allow users to select which nation’s place name database they want to use. This allows Google to maintain “neutrality” while giving users more freedom.

"Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS for the U.S., people using Maps in the U.S. will see 'Lake America,' the company said. https://bit.ly/4wXo35c

I prefer to save Halloween celebrations for October. For me, celebrating a holiday months in advance feels odd and makes the holiday seem less special. It's also hard for me to get in the mood for a holiday when the weather is so different from what I associate with that holiday.

@dicknixon.bsky.social Sir, I’m curious what your thoughts are regarding this.

JD Vance’s recent comments on Watergate are part of a growing trend of right-wingers who believe that Nixon is “a lodestar for 21st-century Right-wing counterculture.” @mikekoncewicz.bsky.social on the rehabilitation of Nixon:

I really admire @davidfrenchjag.bsky.social for being a principled conservative who can fairly and intelligently critique both parties.

What if we don’t actually have a competitive two-party system? What if our nation actually has two one-party systems, instead? And if the United States has two one-party systems, then that means voters are constantly confronted with the stagnation and corruption that disfigures single-party rule.

I’m fine with a rule against applauding a potential murder. But I think a vague wish that someone might get murdered is different from a “death threat”.

Micah@rincewind.run

the popehat thing should be a temp suspension but honestly given the entire history of moderation on this website why is anyone surprised that “thing that can very plausibly be read as a death threat” got someone suspended

"The Academic Senate will no longer be of any concern to us. I've just received word that the Trustees have dissolved the council permanently. The last remnants of the Old University have been swept away."

If Disney ever takes my suggestion to retheme Main Street to the 1950s, I picture the cast members wearing outfits like these. (Inspired by the announced update to the Carousel of Progress)

I started out in the Blue/Grey, then Black/Black, then a Blue vest and tie with Khakis.

I love that @parkjourney.com goes beyond Disney & Universal to cover our other local theme parks!

We've got a HUGE update from Six Flags Magic Mountain for you this morning! All of the great pics and video from the Revolution 50th Celebration last Friday as well as a general park update. Lots of positive things happening! #MagicMountain www.parkjourney.com/six-flags/th...

I've slowly been watching more and more hockey. I enjoy it, but I'm surprised at how much physical punishment NHL players are expected to give and receive. It seems very different from the recent NFL emphasis on player safety.

Pet peeve: companies that misuse "x" as an abbreviation for "and" or "versus". As an abbreviation, "x" means "by", as in a 3x5 index card or a 2x4 plank. In marketing, I'm fine with using "x" to mean "made by" or "inspired by", like "Disney x Coach" (Disney products made by Coach).

Personally, I wouldn’t take health advice from someone who doesn’t believe germ theory.

Kennedy is well known as an ardent anti-vaccine activist and peddler of conspiracy theories, but his startling rejection of a cornerstone theory in biomedical science has mostly been underreported.
