Voting early will never get old! Here’s me, voting on a Sunday 🇺🇸. Thanks to the passage of Prop 2 in 2022 and my Democratic colleagues and I codifying its provisions into law, we Michiganders enjoy 9 days of early voting. So, get out there and vote ahead of the August 4th primary! #OpeIVoted

Today is the 6th anniversary of this tweet, revealing that the threat of political violence could happen even inside a state capitol. Months later, our nation’s capitol was attacked in one of the most devastating displays of political violence in American history.

The people of Michigan deserve leaders who have their best interests at heart and stay true to their word. GOP House Speaker Matt Hall has proven to do just the opposite, attempting to rob my constituents of the resources they were promised from the state with bicameral, bipartisan agreement.

While I’m furious that House Republicans put us in this position in the first place, I appreciate that Attorney General Nessel has made it clear that their actions are not just unethical and callous but also illegal.

Today we honor the American heroes in the U.S. Capitol Police department and other law enforcement officers who were beaten and crushed while defending the United States Capitol against a domestic attack on the day Congress was certifying the Presidential election.

For POTUS to vow to make Venezuelans rich while Americans can’t afford groceries, health insurance, or homes is an outrage. How does perp walking a foreign leader make Americans rich? Does any American really believe this gold mine for his friends in oil will somehow “trickle down” to them?

Michigan House Republicans consider fixing Inkster’s Community Center roof to be “waste,” “fraud,” and “abuse,” so they clawed back the funding Inkster was set to receive to fix the roof. This is what happened last night at the Dozier community center. Inkster’s mayor and residents are devastated.

Every Republican who voted for this and every Republican who supports this questionably legal political tactic should hang their head in shame. Thankfully, yesterday, five Senate Republicans joined all Senate Democrats in passing a bill that reinstates this funding.

I'm sickened by the 16 Michigan House Republicans who voted last week to take back funding from organizations like Wigs4Kids with cancer; Kids-TALK, for kids who have been sexually abused; Rx Kids, for mothers and infants in low-income communities, and dozens of other worthy projects.

Yesterday, my caucus, the Michigan Senate Democrats, asked Attorney General Dana Nessel to weigh in on the legality of House Republicans’ clawback of over half a billion in funding for kids with cancer, food assistance for seniors, and support for child abuse victims.

On @repmatthall’s chopping block for my community are building renovations to open a new branch of the Kids-TALK Children’s Advocacy Center.

Just finished telling some of the mayors in Senate District 5 that unspent dollars for long-term work projects that were awarded to them in fiscal year 2025 will be clawed back by @RepMattHall. These projects will go unfinished. 💔ing day.

Yesterday, House Republicans abruptly canceled nearly $645 million in funding for critical state projects in a backroom deal. Matt Hall and his caucus are slashing funding for new moms, kids with cancer, fighting the opioid crisis, and crucial projects in every corner of the state.

This week, I visited Starfish Family Services along with Senator Dayna Polehanki. Their team is doing incredible work, serving nearly a thousand little ones across 14 early-childhood centers and running mental health clinics that support families from birth to adulthood.

Those comments came four days after Hall and at least one family member watched in person as the Lions lost to the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 2 from seats he obtained through Public Affairs Associates, the lobbying firm that represents the Detroit Lions.”

Matt and I are “Team Teacher” in the Michigan Legislature where we coordinated during the Democratic Trifecta to deliver HUGE wins for teachers who are finally able to emerge from the Dark Years of Governor Rick Snyder’s tenure. I’m excited to have Rep. Koleszar on Team Polehanki!

BREAKING NEWS 🔔🔔🔔 The courts have spoken and @MISenDems have PREVAILED! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Republican House Speaker Matt Hall MUST release to Governor Whitmer the 9 PASSED bills he has been holding hostage for the past 10 months.

BREAKING: The Michigan Court of Appeals has sided with Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks. Speaker Matt Hall’s attempt to block nine bipartisan bills from the governor has failed. This ruling is clear: no one, especially no politician, is above the Constitution. 🔗🔗 senatedems.com/brinks/2025/...

“Trump has never said such things publicly, although he has broken the rules of civility, which emboldens further degeneracy. The party of Lincoln should be asking why the party of Trump has attracted this faction of individuals, and doing what it must to shed them.”

“SBs 599–602, would create a regulatory framework for consumable hemp products in MI, Sen. Dayna Polehanki explained, noting that intoxicating products made from hemp, including Delta-8 … are being sold in MI gas stations, convenience stores, and online without oversight or testing.”
