the shadows bore me and to them i shall return
visual artist; there is a marginal chance you know me from michael quest: http://mundanity.the-comic.org/

today on aidventures, i looked up the gods of the copybook maxims and the way gemini describes it feels deceptive; it says that it's a poem about how utopianism essentially "summons" natural forces to take care of it, but like. one of the three Saucy passages in the poem is about female suffrage
this has caused me a bit of cognitive friction; i think it's good to present information like this and assume the reader is literate and will be able to come to their own conclusions, but i don't think it should be presented this way by a summary machine
there's a reason why the wikipedia page on this poem has a conspicuous "in Kipling's view", in a section titled "modern critical interpretation. if you're going to chew up information to spit it into people's mouths, you should at least make sure your chewing makes it easier to digest
"is there a place for artists that make things which are not intellectually nurturing and will not stick with me long after i've read them" and other burning questions with no good answers by oculis systems
now that i've finally gotten support from my friends and stuff and especially at the current point in time that i'm pumping out a lot of work for a class i'm starting to realise why i delay homework so much, and it's because holy shit do i hate making bad things
this is also why i stopped updating michael quest frequently and have the project on hold. i hate making bad things and would rather die accomplishing nothing than die having made mistakes. this is a problem

not to be nostalgic about a website i regularly use, but tumblr's lack of an algorithm not only means that you don't spend entire days doomscrolling, it also means there's a lower bound of followers you need before some rando jumps in your mentions to aggressively misinterpret your post
sent a bit of writing to multiple people and they didn't give feedback but one asked "what i was trying to achieve" and i think this is enough to disqualify me from being an artist forever

I met a sponge from an antique seafloor, who did not speak, because sponges do not have a nervous system to move or produce sound, but if it could have, it would have said: A hundred vast and skinless carcasses of stone stand in the ocean.
Amidst them, on the sand, half sunk, a shattered cranium lies, whose size, and healed scar, and sneer of cold command, tell that its owner well those passions read, which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, the genes that mocked them and the biosphere that fed.
every day i'm angrier that asesprite doesn't have transparent selection. it has actual transparency mind you, so artist who use real art apps will be able to do the things you would normally need transparent selection for, but it doesn't have my Scrimblo from Freeware Art Program
flirting vs harassment:
"i don't have this tool to do the thing you wanted me to do..."
"aww, that's okay paint. i will just come up with a creative solution to manage it anyway!"
"I don't have this tool to do the thing you wanted me to do."
"remind me why i pay for you, asesprite."
"oh you can just make a layer beneath that's a solid colour!" I DON'T WANT TO MAKE A LAYER THAT'S A SOLID COLOUR. I WAN'T TRANSPARENT SELECTION.
"oh you can just use the magic wand in all sections that are the same colour"
WRONG. TRANSPARENT SELECTION

Like, this isn't an UNWILLINGNESS to develop media literacy; it's what media literacy LOOKS LIKE when one of the basic skills for understanding the media you most frequently engage with is correctly distinguishing the bits that actually have something to say amid a sea of vacuous algorithm-chasing.
Undertale monsters did not initially turn to dust upon being slain, but would instead be sent to an optional trophy room. This feature was short lived, as playtesters spent hours obsessively examining their "fine specimens".
in a similar vein to every guy secretly thinking he can win any fight if he goes "berserker mode," every animator thinks they could animate anything if they just locked the fuck in for like one evening
was looking at a thread about undertale from 11 years ago that halfbreadchaos put in a video for some reason and i scrolled down in the comments and putnam was right there
me when someone says art school is useless bullshit for hacks because they're a self taught artist: clearly you know how to draw, but do you know how to make art?
me looking at most of my classmates' work: TRITE, DERIVATIVE, PROFOUNDLY UNCURIOUS, UNTHINKING DRIVEL IN SUPPORT OF THE STATUS QUO,
if you didn't go to art school, your opinions regarding art school are invalid, because you lack causal knowledge
if you did go to art school, however, *all* your opinions are invalid until you make a work of art that i deem good, which is likely to never happen because you people are all hacks
(and if you're wondering what my opinions are, which i share with most of the people who's artwork is to my tastes: art school can help you, especially if you already know what you want and are also insane, but watch out)

it's simple. this is the way i justify going to art school to myself, while also preserving my profound love for the work of independent outsider artists who hate me:
Kicking off September with an eye-opening interview between Shigeru Miyamoto and Satoshi Tajiri from 1993! The conversation is mainly focused on the newly released Star Fox and Miyamoto's ideas about polygons, shooting games, and CD-ROM media. shmuplations.com/miyamotoxtaj...
man penumbra phantasm is a good song with a lot of good remixes but under all of them there's some deltarune fan commenting like "listen i know toby said he wasn't gonna reuse any homestuck songs but what if the stuff about respecting his dead friend's memory was a lie for us to Theorise about"
