"Open source RSS readers have a UI that is at best lovingly brutalist and at worst too clunky for my use case" is a good chunk of the reason why Serial exists! If you're someone who's looking for a different option, give Serial a shot: github.com/megaflorasof...
I'm trying out this self-hosted RSS service on my server: https://miniflux.app… The UI looks like shit, but I only really need it as an API to use as a sync service from something like NetNewsWire. Almost no RSS app or service allows you to keep unread items indefinitely, here I can configure it.
Serial has taken the first steps to joining the Atmosphere! You can now sign up with or link your Atmosphere account to Serial. Soon, we'll be rolling out more features to allow for subscription and bookmark portability through @standard.site and @lexicon.community.
Learn more about both these changes in the full release notes: www.serial.tube/releases/202...
Also worth noting that like all Serial releases, this functionality is just as usable in self-hosted instances! Learn more about setting up AT Protocol authentication in your setup here: github.com/megaflorasof...
