as someone who regrettably went to the same high school as this man and whose birthday is on election day, the only present I want from you if you live in Ohio is to go stomp this man into the mud and make sure he never come back into the public consciousness

Jane Coaston@janecoaston.bsky.social

now that we know it's Vivek's campaign and they're putting money into it it's wild to know the worst person to ever live went to St. Xavier High School

also yes this should be “comes back” but my cat stepped on my trackpad and hit post before I could catch it so a minor grammatical issue is what we all must live with

If you're weird enough about the internet that you've ended up on Bluesky, you almost certainly would like Never Post It's one of the most consistently "worth listening to" podcasts I know of (and this episode specifically is such a breath of fresh air in comparison to the recent media cycle)

Ink & Switch's approach of being forward-looking while staying uncompromising on both the value of intention in what you make and the necessity of shaping the world to match your and your community'´s system of values is (in my opinion) the most essential message in software right now

Ink & Switch@inkandswitch.com

Here it is—the final talk from our @localfirstconf.com Lab Day! After 10 years of Ink & Switch, Peter van Hardenberg @pvh.ca takes the long view. Why do we do research? Who does it serve? And what now, as the world gets weirder? How to Research Tools for Thought

"Open source RSS readers have a UI that is at best lovingly brutalist and at worst too clunky for my use case" is a good chunk of the reason why Serial exists! If you're someone who's looking for a different option, give Serial a shot: github.com/megaflorasof...

I'm trying out this self-hosted RSS service on my server: https://miniflux.app… The UI looks like shit, but I only really need it as an API to use as a sync service from something like NetNewsWire. Almost no RSS app or service allows you to keep unread items indefinitely, here I can configure it.

Lots more to come here! Also happy that I got an excuse to shoutout @bnb.im 's great roundup of introductory Atmosphere resources in the release notes

Serial@serial.tube

Serial has taken the first steps to joining the Atmosphere! You can now sign up with or link your Atmosphere account to Serial. Soon, we'll be rolling out more features to allow for subscription and bookmark portability through @standard.site and @lexicon.community.

Does anyone know what the state of music-based lexicons is? I've taken a peek at @rocksky.app and @teal.fm 's approaches, but I'm curious if there's been any push for a standardized concept of a "song" / "recording" / "album" or if there's just simply not enough ecosystem need for that yet

Just published the first step of enabling web bookmarking for @serial.tube , and it’s really nice to give people the option of convenience vs control at every level and without boxing them out of “real” features It feels very complimentary to the data ownership ideals from AT Proto in a lot of ways

Serial@serial.tube

This is not exclusive to the hosted version either – send bookmarks to both the primary instance or to self-hosted instances with the exact same extension:

If you look really hard at this you’ll see my contribution of bad saxophones and metal chairs making music (and you should anyways because everyone involved is very cool)

Recurse Center@recurse.com

Four Recursers built an arcade cabinet that you can ship games to by pushing to GitHub. It has a real CRT with a custom display adapter, and over 50 new games made by the RC community. Watch the full talk on how the RCade was built from the hardware up: www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-Op...

Always a happy day when you get to test app features with @molly.wiki 's journalism

Got @standard.site up and running for my project @serial.tube, plus a more granular set of tools for organizing RSS content!

Serial@serial.tube

View sections are a new way of organizing content in Serial, designed to better enable you to organize content the way you want – this is often from "most read" to "least read" feeds, but it can be anything you want. Check out the release notes for more: serial.tube/releases/202...

trying to locate where a specific plaque is at the statue of liberty for an out of town relative and google's Helpful and Game Changing New Experience is citing its answers with an unrelated animal crossing reel

Took the slightly terrifying step of adding a paid hosting option for my open source RSS reader today – if having a better home for your blogs and YouTube videos appeals to you, take a look (or, go host it for yourself)!

The US is becoming to akin to apartheid-era South Africa, where racialized groups needed a "passbook" to travel from one part of the country to the other. Who brings a passsport with them when they are traveling domestically?

Johnathan Perkins@johnathanperk.bsky.social

Oh wow. Lanes on I-10 narrowed suddenly, forcing ALL drivers to exit at a weigh station. A makeshift checkpoint—digital sign read: “Have Passport Ready” 1 of like 12 ICE agents, all standing around—in full military gear—ordered me to open my window: “You a U.S. citizen?” “Uh yes” then let me go..

This is a budget for a declaration of total war on the population. It's the building of an army of blackshirts and the creation of a massive system of concentration camps. A crystallization of everything lurking below the surface of the American project.

Aaron Reichlin-Melnick@reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029: - $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion - $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million - $8 billion for hiring/retention - Billions more.

I pitched the NYT on this and they passed cause "all democrats are good with LGBTQ people"

Eliel Cruz@elielcruz.com

Zohran Mamdani is the only democrat in the mayoral race that released an LGBTQ platform and the only democrat in the country (that I know of) to commit to safeguarding gender affirming care for youth + adults with $$.
