For those hiring at non-PhD schools, I'll be curious if the market is changing. Having been on many hiring committees I wondered what the market was like for non-PhD schools, so I wrote a paper journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1...

Riley Acton@riacton.bsky.social

Still early, but it kinda looks like we’re having a K-shaped econ job market? Top 50 PhD-granting departments: TT postings up 47% from this time last year (but still down 25% from recent median, excluding COVID) Everywhere else: TT postings down 19% from last year & 35% from recent median

Fed an abstract into regular Chat GPT and some reviews from a rejection and it came up with the same two journals to submit to next. It suggested some non-econ journals but I think I agree with Chat's conclusion that probably best I stick with econ journals

Unofficially, I have 50% funding for a master's student this fall at Towson to study AI tutoring in Principles. If you have a student interested in Economics Education who is still looking for what do this fall please send them my way

Got 2 requests from highschoolers looking for opportunities to do research with me. I have a tough enough time doing research with undergrad so I always say no. That said I also wish I could help my highschool aged daughter find a different econ mentor to work on her cool project idea

sometimes I also think about creating a research course for highschoolers and charging some students and giving it free to disadvantaged students, but probably better uses of my time

This is a really cool paper! This was an issue in my undergraduate research guide, that had several pdfs the people created to help students. I wonder if we should start having pdf repository of websites we use journalofeconomicsteaching.org/a-guide-for-...

journalofeconomicsteaching.orgA Guide for Student-led Undergraduate Research in Empirical Micro-Economics (Gitter) - Journal of Economics TeachingThis guide provides advice on doing a student-led undergraduate research project in empirical economics to both students and faculty members. New paper out in Applied Economic Letters with Dusty White! We checked every external hyperlink in the top 5 econ journals (2011–2020) and found: ➡️ 52% are dead ➡️ 25% of "working" links don't even show the original content anymore. Gift link to the paper in response ⬇️

If you publish in development this is always a super helpful overview of development journals. Wish there were more like this for other journals

David McKenzie@dmckenzie.bsky.social

Today I have put up my 10th annual look at development journals, which works with journal editors to put together statistics on submission numbers, acceptance rates, review times, and more. This is the post that takes me the most time to do each year blogs.worldbank.org/en/impacteva...

OK shot in the dark but do any of you work at/know someone who works at the kind of investment firm that creates its own ETFs or investment vehicles?

If you teach intro to Econ and would be interested in being part of an RCT on AI homework tutor I have a good lead on funding. Participating faculty will get $500 to $1000. DM me or email sgitter@towson.edu Please repost! Repost and I'll buy you a drink at ASSA 2027 or future conference

If you use #QuartoPub for any PDF documents for teaching and you need to meet impending PDF accessibility rules, upgrade to v1.9, add format: typst: pdf-standard: ua-1 to the YAML front matter, and it'll work!

How timely! About to get on a zoom about teaching intro to Econ with AI w/ @justinwolfers.bsky.social I plan to run an RCT with an AI tutor turned on/off in Intro. If you teach multiple sections of intro and are interested in joining drop me a line (I might have stipends too)

Prof Dynarski@dynarski.bsky.social

Thinking of running an RCT in postsecondary education? MDRC has created a fantastic set of resources to help you in projecting minimum effect sizes, randomizing, and processing data Proud to have helped advise this project! www.mdrc.org/the-rct

Excited to announce the call for papers for the inaugural MidSouth Education Policy Workshop, October 16-17, in Lexington, KY! Send us your abstracts on all things econ of ed & ed policy by 8/27. Grad students & early career folks especially welcome! Info & link to submit here: bit.ly/44TdiGf

I'm at #CTREE I only recognize a few people here. There is no one posting about papers. I miss the old days of Econ twitter. FWIW I also see no posts on Twitter about CTREE (the first time I have probably logged in months)
