Everybody stop what you're doing and read this brilliance!

In other news...I also have a new article up on @clashingsabers.bsky.social! 😅 I used THE NINTH JEDI as an excuse to flesh out my most "old man yells at cloud" Star Wars take—namely, that Star Wars as a franchise and fandom would be better off if it abandoned its commitment to a unified canon.

This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair. No place for self-pity. No need for silence. No room for fear. We speak. We write. We do language. That is how civilizations heal. - Toni Morrison

Immense gratitude to Kevin Wetmore for the triumph that is Ray Bradbury: A Companion, and including my chapter, "Imagining Transgender Realities..." Thanks, too, to Robert Anderson of the LA Public Library for tracking down the tragic news item from 1937 that likely inspired Bradbury's story.

I'm old enough to remember when a teenage couple tagged a temple in Des Moines with swastikas and Iowans were utterly disgusted. They were ordered to take classes from the rabbi, made good, and later invited the rabbi to their wedding. I do not recognize Iowans anymore.

My simple observation (that the Iowa State Fair "straw poll" doesn't accurately reflect the composition of Iowa's electorate) prompted a wave of antisemitic replies. Any Jewish person who thinks Republicans or conservatives are serious about "fighting antisemitism" is delusional.

New WIP calls for a new notebook, which itself calls for an emblem that's appropriately symptomatic of the whole blastedly neurotic endeavor. Thus: slapped a sticker on the cover for the (defunct?) bookstore named after my great-great-great-grandfather.

Stellar new episode of Thursdeighties is live -- Billiam talking with Lance Guest! I grew up watching The Last Starfighter, so this conversation is just so fun. 👨‍🚀🚀

New Thursdeighties ep! Lance Guest talks to me about his tv and movie career, his music, Broadway and the Million Dollar Quartet, and much more. A wonderful, talented, kind human - and let's not forget that once upon a time, back in the 80s, he saved the universe. shows.acast.com/thursdeighti...

What can I possibly say to praise Fantasmagoriana Deluxe enough? Published the same time the Brothers Grimm brought out their fairy tales, these stories carry folktale elements while steering toward death, the afterlife, strange happenings. They will surprise readers today in a number of fun ways.

Was listing this rare Swedish biography online today when I noticed some of its pages remain uncut along to top text block. That's when I discovered this special message -- meant just for you! 🌊📚

Another Jungian nugget in Star Wars: Legacy! One of the sacred Jedi texts is titled Aionomicum, volume two. In Carl Jung’s Collected Works, Volume 9, Part 2, is his book Aion. It is a study on what he called the Self, the archetype of archetypes, so to speak.

Not a spoiler: Star Wars: Legacy begins on the planet Pacara -- a play on the word picara, a term for a female adventurer. The picaresque is a form of novel made up of episodic adventures, the famous example being Don Quixote. Rey is absolutely a picara, so it fits to catch up with her on Pacara.

Great big thanks to Scott and Emily and Zac Ziegler, a Reporter at KLCC, for our Tsunami Books appearance on Oregon Rainmakers. A fun group interview here about our efforts to buy the Tsunami Books property. www.klcc.org/podcast/klcc...
