(I love the ones I’ve got very much! When the style works it really works! I’m also reconciled to the Olaf figures after atreic kindly explained they’re based on a cute cartoon and not suggesting he murders Disney Princesses and wears their skins! But I will never forgive their take on Swiftwind.)

(Given how many excellent cheap cute plastic horse toys there are it hadn’t occurred to me it could go So Wrong. So Very, Very Wrong. Haunts My Nightmares Like Buildable Lego Jyn Erso Wrong.) (Er. Apologies if any of you adore Funko Swiftwind. Or Buildable Lego Jyn Erso, for that matter.)

Relatedly, would it be weird to get the funko pop version of the goth girlfriend version of my shadow priest’s old dagger? I got quite fond of my evil stabby best friend that was trying to drive me mad by the end of Legion.

I don’t get many because the eye style is extremely hit or miss on whether it works for me, but since she’s an evil void in the shape of a person, looking mildly soulless isn’t really an issue.

The replies here appear to be heavily implying that helter skelters aren’t a thing in North America and I am Surprised.

Sarah Z@sarahz.bsky.social

Quick vibe check on something: I assume most people are aware of the concept of Helter Skelter as what Charles Manson believed was an imminent race war. Without looking it up, is the Beatles song Helter Skelter about that?

Much to my surprise, actually, since I haaate on-ear headphones with a fiery passion, but these don’t squish or pinch my ears at all and petting them is moderately blissful.

Okay, back to slightly creepy 80s cheese (a cover thereof) with Fionn’s cover of Run With Us (The Raccoons theme song) but I feel overall Shuffle has lightened up a bit.

We’re back to outlaws (sort of) with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Two Gunslingers. Which reminds me I need to decide if I really do like Charmillionaire’s probably objectively terrible song Good Morning song wot samples Free Falling enough to buy it. It’s just so *funny*.

Janelle Monae’s March of the Wolfmasters isn’t going to break the streak, and neither is Jace Everett’s True Blood theme tune Bad Things. I swear my music collection isn’t all Like This.

It is a constant source of amazement to me that my obnoxious tendency to assume people disagree with me sincerely and *stupidly* isn’t even close to the most disrespectful mode, but the “people who disagree with me are LYING ABOUT IT” types have me beat cold.

And I will truly never understand them because I don’t find it even slightly difficult to conceive of multiple opinions existing. On account of ever having spoken to another person, at all, ever, and thus noticed that they weren’t a puppet appendage to parrot my views.

Every so often, on account of the floppy joints, I rediscover that this does unfortunately include the trachea. Which sounds much more serious than it mostly is: Generally speaking I just lose my voice and do a bit of communing with anti-inflammatory gel to keep it from making breathing harder.

Plus picking soft foods, that sort of thing. Not fun, but, you know, it’s just a thing that happens, usually when I swallow a bit wrong or end up with pressure on my throat somehow. Not entirely sure how I managed to sproing the dratted thing in my *sleep*. That’s just irritating.

I would very much like to not be thinking about this dude ever again but: Did Youtube Man seriously *only* put his… apology? explanation? on bluesky and not on youtube or patreon *and* lock down youtube comments? Having a real scepticism intensifies moment.

It literally hadn’t even occurred to me that people would be criticising JG’s removal from Nebula. Obviously his now-former colleagues shouldn’t have to continue to work with him and have their public images tied to him. Things that should be self-evident but apparently aren’t.

So pretty.

At long last, the Artemis silk scarves are here! logandria.com/collections/... Artemis is a goddess of paradoxes and extremes; but she offers us uncompromising clarity of self, and an example of what it looks like to fiercely maintain one’s boundaries and bodily autonomy.

This seems extremely worthwhile, both as an event and a cause. Also, if you like the cause but can’t make the event, donation link is here: cinemamuseum.org.uk/donate/

Yoohoo! The Cinema Museum in London is fundraising to buy its building with a gala show. The theme is movies about movies and it looks amazing. September 30, if you can get to London! cinemamuseum.org.uk/scheduled/ex...

Y’know what, with ratios that size I can’t imagine there is anything useful left to say to the main character of the day and no further need to demonstrate consensus disapproval. Further dogpiling seems unnecessary and I think I can safely sit this one out.

I was puzzled about what exactly the witticism (… such as it is) on the side of the Amazon Prime van meant until they slid the door closed, and “The P in AS stands for P” transformed into “The P in ASAP stands for Prime”.

I think they could do better — hire someone with a head for puns, perhaps — but also, Amazon has enough of a deathgrip on shopping already and I don’t especially mind if their advertising is bad.

I’m also firmly of the opinion that all van slogans should still function regardless of the position of the door (bonus points if you end up with more than one joke) so nil point all round.

I remember being confused because I kept seeing dudes worship him and I couldn’t figure out why — he wasn’t even an engineer at all! He had great PR. All he needed to do was Not Pop The Illusion, and not give people a reason to want to pop it for him. Arrogance got him to roll in needles instead.

John Scalzi@scalzi.com

I may have told this story but 15 years ago I was summoned to the Beverly Hills mansion of an Oscar-winning producer to consult on a proposed TV series about a privately-funded mission to Mars, with a billionaire character who was clearly Elon Musk. He was the dude back then. So very much not now.

Considering the vast swathe of love songs available in the world that you could use instead, why on earth would you choose FAMOUSLY ANGRY BREAK-UP SONG SILVER SPRINGS to play over your buy-our-wedding-dresses-please reel?

I don’t mean to be rude but do you all know that you can just… Not follow, listen to, or leave unmuted the Bluesky staff? Even if they’re saying silly and/or harmful things you aren’t obligated to host them on your feed on a daily basis. It isn’t high enough on the praxis priorities list for that.

Obviously if you’re getting enormous enjoyment from roasting them or feel you’re making a meaningful difference carry on! Mostly seems like you’re all just sad and frustrated, though.
