University of Texas (my law school): not gonna make the football coach apologize for being rude to Holly Rowe because we don't respect women. Cornell (my undergrad): hold my beer. I was embarrassed to be an alum when Cornell suspended the Gaza protestors. Now I am gutted.

A story from one of our members: In February 2025, I met an unhoused neighbor across from my house for the first time. I visited her and her partner during lunch breaks and evening walks, sometimes with water and food and other times just a big hug.

Given that the agents who've shot people thus far are longtime employees, I think we need to talk a little less about incompetent bozos joining up, and a lot more about how and why working for ICE/CBP is radicalizing incompetent bozos into murderous stormtroopers.

ProPublica@propublica.org

BREAKING: The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.

The ICE officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti have been there for over 7 years. These aren't the undertrained, reformable recent hires Democrats are trying to sell you. This is their best case scenario. Abolish ICE.

I saw a video where Minnesotans were telling ICE agents that they weren't wanted. One agent retorted that this is what people voted for in the last election, to which a person said, "not here". ICE is only terrorizing communities that didn't vote for this because this about punishment and terror.

It is also about racism, obviously. But even having lived in Texas for 3 years, I can tell you a large portion of voters are just living in constant fear of every bogeyman Republicans can dream up. It's just ridiculous their fear is used to justify trying to oppress places like Minneapolis and LA.

As we grieve for Alex Pretti and Renee Good in MN, please do not forget Victor Manuel Diaz, who died in ICE custody after being taken from here. And all others who have died in their custody.

36-year-old Nicaraguan national Victor Manuel Diaz died in ICE custody on Jan. 14 at Camp East Montana in El Paso. The Texas Nicaraguan Community on FB reports that his mom last heard from him on Jan. 6, when he told her he was planning to go to Minneapolis to start work in a restaurant. 1/3

Join us for outreach! We always go over our guidelines, and if you’re new, we’ll make sure you’re in a group with experienced volunteers - all you need to do is show up! We meet in the Immanuel Presbyterian parking lot at 12pm (you can park in the lot!) See you there!

My husband passed the bar exam! And while I'm not surprised, he did it under some impossibly difficult circumstances. In a year of a lot of darkness, I am glad for a small good thing.

Planters and landscaping continue to be installed under the guise of "civic beautification"... but the ugliness gives the game away. Their true purpose is the private co-opting of public land, as well as the displacement and erasure of our most vulnerable community members.

A week with my nieces and I'm realizing why you actually shouldn't introduce children to your beloved pop culture. Not much survives 20 listens in a row punctuated with things like "that's so preppy" or "I got you chat".

Top takeaways from All-Star Weekend: -The coordinated "Pay Us What You Owe Us" shirts are proving once again that the WNBPA has the best union t-shirt game (watch Power of the Dream if you're not convinced) -Players actively engaging in union organizing during the televised game is very cool.

-GloRilla was an inspired choice for performing at halftime. Diplo was kinda a weird choice for the after party. It's not her fault that Courtney didn't know who he was and asked him to change the music. -Nneka => Comissioner when?

-Did a Studbud cross a line? Yes. Was it handled with kindness & accountability & without cancellation? Also yes. -It was nice to see buckets of queer love & allyship for 72 hours straight. -I take it all back; I get twitch now. -Saniya taught Marina to dance, you can do ANYTHING just believe

I know south Asian men have been joking that Mamdani winning is just going to mean their parents will have higher expectations for them but just respond with "mom, you're not exactly Mira Nair."

Feeling very grumpy with working my second Sunday in a row. I love outreach and wouldn't give it up for anything, but it eats up a good portion of my Saturdays. Sundays are my one day to do laundry, grocery shop, and clean, let alone relax. And it has taken a lot more from me than I realized.

Law is a profession made up a lot of competitive, individual overachievers who constantly thrown into situations where they have to cooperate with each other on teams or with opponents. Law school is cutthroat, others' success is your failing.

If we're "bringing back" a day to celebrate a genocidal r*pe enabling slave trader, I'm 'celebrating' by bastardizing every Italian dish I can. Peas in the carbonara, corn risotto in the instant pot, breaking my spaghetti before boiling, pineapple on pizza. Suggestions welcome.

Ugh. Just placed an LAHop request for a person who lives on the border and travels between two SPAs. She is extremely responsive by phone and email. The service provider refuses to assign anyone unless they have a single fixed location.

I was being facetious at first but insisting on an audience with a person who is dying after being refused one so you could fight with him about why it's ok to hate immigrants probably wasn't great.

I dropped a tent to a couple that just lost theirs in a sweep. They want to stay together. There are no shelters with couple spots free. They're on a list for a tiny home but have been told it could take years. Police told them they couldn't be where they were. Didn't mention where they *could* go.

They share one phone between them and rely on each other a lot. I talked to another formerly unhoused person last week who has been permanently housed for a couple years now. Her biggest issue has been the isolation. She'd never give up her roof, but she misses having friends and a social life.
