also fuck max payne 3's higher difficulties "what if the game based around epic action setpieces was actually about abusing the slow mo mechanic while diving as much as possible while at the farthest distance from enemies so you can snipe them before they instantly hitscan beam you from 500 yards"
slow mo mechanics in games usually rub me the wrong way because a lot of the time they just guarantee that hard to execute things will never actually be hard or are just intentional misrepresentations of the game for the visual flare of an epic slow mo shot
this also reminds me of the Nth gungeon crossover reference item where it gives the game superhot's main mechanic and it's literally just an instant win button every single time
even if you're not playing for speed, there's a point in both of those games where your movement will majorly be jumping around to pass the time and then stopping when you're in a tough spot

one thing i haven't seen in the arcade game discourse that's been going around: i feel like there's a stigma against "rote memorization" that deserves pushing back against just a little bit. i think a lot of people have the idea that once you have a game "memorized" the challenge is essentially over

like are we nuts? Are we insane?
another thing that's very telling is the emphasis on Redemption machines (AKA anything that went on ticket payouts like skee ball), which is kinda funny since they killed anything about arcades that would entice returning a location, and it's effectively all the American arcade scene is now
