@robcrank68.bsky.social BirdOfTheDay is my favourite thing about social media. Don't know why I keep forgetting how varied & amazing our feathered friends are, & also love seeing how different people interpret the daily themes. Appreciating beauty & finding others who do feels critical right now. 🙇‍♀️

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Literacy. Watching kids in Cuba/Mexico run, read, and kick a soccer ball all at the same time? 🏆 Me mum didna die from polio, got me a library card, & a bank account. Historian, so tend to think in centuries, not decades. But we got a bit better about letting people tell their own stories.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

What some call "Hallowe'en" and write off as "just for kids" is a holy day for others. Leave a light on, for the absent ones, so they can find their way home.

"How do you know that?" Because I have an internet connection, frequent bouts of insomnia, and zero self-restraint regarding my unholy urge to answer a question with another question. I'll take "Next" for $1000, please, Alex.

Clearly, tech bros are assholes who don't read comics. "Home is run no more." "Gud dog. Home now." Described as "Homeward Bound and Watership Down meets Saving Private Ryan by way of Robocop" - and that's understating it.

But this shit is We3, meets Jurassic Park, meets Island of Doctor Moreau level bullshit. You could tell me the washouts won't end up in dog fighting rings, but I wouldn't believe it. Dolphins already rejected attempts at military indoctrination. Why turn "man's best friend" into our worst enemy?

“An ‘apparent lack of patience,’ said one person familiar with the situation, appeared to be a factor.” My inner art historian continues to metaphorically crawl the bottom of a vat of vodka the size of which would make Olympic swimming pools jealous.

Can someone remind me why I bothered with higher ed? Or failing that, remind me I stopped teaching at the right time? Or that I left film/tv industry at the right time? 20 yrs ago, 1st years couldn't do the reading, or write a sentence; 15 ago PAs couldn't unjam a copier. Suspect it's now so worse.

will never forget, "I make too much money to do that much work" where "work" meant scraping/rinsing your lunch plate before leaving it on your desk for a week (MOLD), or put it upside down w/food over glasses on top drawer of the dishwasher. Throwing plates & grabbing asses well within paygrade, tho

Excellent thread.

Finally, a top level European official who is currently in office spells it out clearly: Kaja Kallas: "American negotiators have been trying to push Ukraine into surrender for already almost two years, one and a half years now"

"Dems headed for success in the midterms, fueled by a swell of Americans who see Trump as a crook/but the president’s inner circle is going up in flames/and sinking in a cauldron of corruption and boneheaded policies." Finding myself agreeing w/Dowd must mean we're truly through the looking glass.

Every time I shut down our PS4, I give it a tiny pat, whisper to it sweetly, & blow kisses at it, saying, "You are the best console ever, and I want us to be friends until beyond the end of time." Here I thought it was the trade war w/US that would sink my chances of getting a PS5. Forget the 6.

Blaze@blazemakesgames.bsky.social

The PS6 is so cooked. Like what can it possibly even offer that would be worth that price point? Especially when people are only becoming less able to afford such luxuries. Each Console gen has smaller gaps in quality, but now with increasing gaps in cost. This isn't sustainable

Today, Albertans are voting in a stupid referendum that should have never been called. They’re actually right to be angry. They’re just directing that anger towards a distraction rather than a solution. Let me explain.

JUST FUCKING STOP ALREADY. Unwanted, unneeded, unknown how exactly it's getting paid for, like every other useless thing he's done: Reflecting Pool, Kennedy Centre, cage matches on the South Lawn, Great American State Fair, birthday military parades, fly-overs & red carpets for dictators,

Yet another devastating school shooting in our country. Instead of pushing commonsense gun control to prevent tragedies like this in our schools, the Trump regime is spending our money on a war that kills children in schools abroad. SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE!

Speechless over this evisceration of David Brooks. Had to be done.

Jason Karsh@jkarsh.bsky.social

David Brooks isn’t stupid. He watches politics for a living. He sees his party embracing white nationalism with both arms. But instead of doing something, he’s offended by what you call them because he knows it reflects directly on how he’s wasted his career defending wannabe klansmen.

Hypocrisy makes me break out in HIVES. And sadly, not a cool bee hive hairdo, complete with mini skirt and go-go boots (the ones Nancy wore, made for walkin'). The hives that would make your mom bathe you in calamine lotion, and tape oven mits over your hands.
