The Man City saga has entered the stage of one-sided churnalism. Without addressing the merits, City are positioning impressively and there’s no real ‘other side’ spinning back. Cue months of incremental ‘maybe they have a point', overtaken by the next stage, then another spin cycle? #MCI #EPL

You'd think FIFA would be be prepared to pay Australia, Argentina/Chile/Uruguay, and South Africa to host the World Cup going forward. I mean who'd have thought you'd get brutal temperatures and evening storms in North America at this time of year, and imagine if the World Cup was in Europe?

I wonder if Americans should be careful of protesting. Calls for regime change on the street might be enough to persuade a rogue nation to launch an attack.

if introspection was invented in the 1920s, it was because people had stopped believing in God, not because they (for example): did not have a conscience did not want to learn from their mistakes made every decision instantly based only on what they knew right then

The people who are reframing the Vietnam era "how many kids have you killed today" chant for Donald J have it completely wrong. It scans better as Donny J.

apparently Mercury is not in retrograde, so I have no idea why everything on my Mac went slightly wrong today. That's four hours I won't get back for a net gain of exactly nothing.

Was the polling in Gorton really that bad? That was a pretty big win- the sort of win that would be called the moment after polls closed in many places...

Looking for wrongdoing purely by the light of available records is like searching for car keys under a streetlamp. Early ’90s-the period when Trump was active with Epstein-calls and faxes? Mostly gone. Later emails? Blindingly obvious. Evidence visibility ≠ activity. #EpsteinFiles

I wonder how many recall 1990s power comms: no email but pre-smartphone/BlackBerry mobiles (aka unlogged devices). 1985: secretary-mediated desk calls- witnesses/records. by 2005: digital trails everywhere. 1990–2000? A black hole. Reviewing Epstein files for DJT? #JustSayin

staggering to look at the platform Jesse Jackson, RiP, ran on 1984 and '88, you could cut and paste most of it and have a rational run at the primary in 2028. #40+years #nothingchanges

I keep (still) seeing Adam Smith huggers hanker for a return to the gold standard. I wonder if they realize that means a governmentally fixed price of gold, which in terms means capital controls?

oh commuters just found the motherlode of ice agents at a suburban hotel, including, potentially, bovino himself. a bunch of confirmed ICE and CBP cars from the bovino convoy there. spring hill suites in maple grove. people of the twin cities, do with this info what you will.

So Trump just received a $100M gift from a foreign politician? That's the Emoluments Clause right there- no? #groundstoimpeach

The Nobel Prize museum in Oslo subtweeting the fuck out of Trump today.

#EnglishEnglish Are we coining enough new slang for this era? There should be a geoff of the World Cup would be more subversive and harder for the irony-free side of the pond to parse. #geofftheWorldCup

Oil, as I understand it, is typically sold net 30 days. So how can the US Government already have *received* $500M for Venezuelan oil? Who has paid and why (and for what- is the oil delivered?)

Counting down to the *true New Year*- the perihelion (the point at which the earth is closest to the sun) in 7 hours. if you want to count rotations to me that (or the aphelion) is/are the only rational starting point(s)

Do they call it "vibe coding" because it just makes you feel like something is happening? Solving coding-like logic challenges seems to be completely different from (say) connecting two or three systems and having them work together, for example

@nordvpn.bsky.social your recent change to not let me turn off connection for more than one hour means I close the application instead. Annoying and less protection. If you sorted out all the sites that block you, that I use regularly, we could have a conversation #justsayin

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

seeing a few "what's going on???" posts from MAGA on the "other site" in reaction to polls and election results. It's almost as if a party that won with less than 50% of the vote, and then governs with extreme policies it barely ran on, is going to hit the rocks of reality fast?

The jeans/genes ad. So I looked at Twitter. There were 6 tweets on 7/26 against the search Sydney Sweeney Nazi. There were very many on 7/27, but by then there were already a very large number of "look at the dumb libtards" reactions to the "reaction". Was this 80+% astroturfed?

#AI for most LLMs today long form inputs are encouraged AND carriage returns are treated as "enters." I wouldn't mind the fat finger problem with my AI inputs, if the product hadn't ALSO made it impossible for me to interrupt the AI's output. #UX

proposed definition: "Provocative platforming": when media amplifies the most extreme voices from the opposing side, then encourages audiences to assume these fringe positions represent mainstream opposition.

Trump admits the Miller's deportations are bad economically and harming industries populated with immigrant workers. So, stop the deportations.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

Every prominent Democrat in the country should jump on this immediately. Enough bullshit cowering on this issue. Get on this! Trump just handed you a massive weapon. Use it!

Had a great response to the announcement of the pre-sale on Billy Bragg - A People's History due out in October. I'll be appearing in support of the book at Louder Than Words, the UK's biggest music literature festival, in Manchester in November. www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/billy-brag...

There's not much point is telling protesters to "do it nicely" Malcolm X: The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses…

So... Rather than focusing on what may well turn out to be the real issue, that the President tried to do a thing (doesn't matter what) that he cannot, everyone focused on *what* he tried to do. Like focusing on Ben Johnson's 100 meters time, without even thinking the big story, his use of drugs.
