Frequently confusing irreverent with irrelevant. Also ethical investment (not allowed to call it sustainable), employee ownership, running and general sports burble

It's a day for upgrades today: - upgrading dry cough mixture to chesty cough variant - upgrading paracetamol to ibuprofen because my chest hurts from yesterday's coughing 3rd lurgh within 2 months. Sense of humour failed.....

Hello! It doesn’t cost anything to repost but it helps me spread the word about my small business. My online shop is full of bold & colourful prints, homewares and cards. I’m also available for freelance design work and art licensing. gailmyerscough.co.uk

I missed this earlier today. What a pie. I'd happily pay postage for a slice to be sent up.

Jay Rayner@jayrayner1.bsky.social

I baked a full crust pie. Chicken, leek, mushroom and thyme as you asked.

Cole Palmer should've been sent off there. Officials bottled it. Would've been a ridiculous red card to earn himself so he's lucky.

And the important thing about that is he'll only get a one match ban instead of the 3 match ban he deserves. (And now Rogers escaping a similar fate too)

This is an absolute doozy, cooked up on Wrong St by Mr Wrong. Make sure to then watch the TOTP performance in the replies. It banged then, it absolutely still bangs now.

Would you like to see the wrongest review of music reviews ever courtesy of Mark Frith in Smash Hits?

Such a terribly sad story. Makes me wonder a bit if some public information films on dangers of water are merited, when you have stories like this & all the tragic deaths in water during the heatwaves. I've a few experiences of being protected from strong currents & they've always stuck with me.

In other news, this is now the 3rd bug I've had in about 7 weeks. Reckon I might usually get 3 in a year so this stretch is getting really bloody tedious.

This reminds me that we can be certain the Man Utd squad aren't using performance-enhancing drugs

22 October 2012. American cyclist Lance Armstrong was formally stripped of his 7 Tour de France titles after an investigation into doping allegations found that Armstrong had used performance-enhancing drugs over the course of his career.

Hoping this is going to be a fun ten minutes on the train with someone in civil service reading their official-sensitive emails openly

5. "Worst parade I've ever seen." 9/10 - my fave so far. Original and made me laugh. Caught the eye of the guy holding it and we shared a laugh as I ran past.

6. "Smile if you think I'm hot." 8/10 - smiling is one of the best things you can do in a marathon so any reminder is very welcome. 7. "Tap here to power up." 8/10. The kids love it when you high five them or tap their signs & it makes me smile (see 6). Loses a point tho for adults holding them.

1. "You paid to do this" (obvs similar to the one from PTL) - 7/10. Factually correct in most cases, it's a bit dull but nonetheless accurate. 2. "Pain is the French for baguette." - 6/10. Also factually correct & mildly funny the first couple of times you see it, however overused & so now dull

3. "Not long to go now." 2/10 - usually seen in first couple of miles. Just stop it, you're not funny. 4. "Never trust a fart." 0/10 - unfunny, seen too often. Get in the sea or get fired into the sun, either works for me.

Full house parkrun kit this morning - gloves, buff and.... sunnies! Glorious morning for it and the bracing cold lung filling...

Mine was 1 month aged 19 at a chateau in Normandy. The guy I shared a room & job with made it very plain he didn't like me (it was mutual when I realised what an arse he was) & the woman running it saw a schoolgirl called Bianca & reputedly said "She's called Bianca but she's black." No thanks.

Tonight really was a night for cockwombles on the roads, undertaking the move preferred. Featuring one prize chump in a Cayenne who stopped in the outside lane of a dual carriageway because I flashed him for being an arse. (Shouldn't have stooped I know, but what an ass hat)

And I'm guessing it's Dem supporters who are outside the Co-op Arena right now helping Americans to vote from here before seeing the OG speak

Change often starts from the ground up, and there are hundreds of state and local candidates this year who will stand up for their communities and fight for progress. These races will help shape our future, and it’s never been more important to get involved: DLCC.org/TargetRaces

Seems I wasn't the only middle-aged man to stick on spikes and venture back into the world of cross-country racing after a few decades last weekend. However, 1 of us is a much more accomplished runner than the other & has also written engaging books on running. I can dream of the top 50%....

I ran my first cross-country race in 25 years at the weekend, and wrote about it on Substack ... adharanand.substack.com/p/a-dose-of-...

Don't understand why the Lionesses don't take Russo straight off after that blow to her head. We're 3-0 up tonight, 6-1 on aggregate, why take the risk with a potential concussion?

I’m so sorry, I completely forgot to tell you at the beginning of the month that the UK Kindle edition of How To Be A Domestic Goddess (the title is ironic or, rather, just camp, not a tradwife manifesto) is at the ludicrously low price of 99p all October! I’m afraid this applies just in the UK.
