Reform UKs plan to use the Royal Navy to intercept migrant boats in the Channel brilliantly taken apart by ... er ... Nigel Farage

So it has emerged that Farage was given state funded security including a. 8 man team and two cars, when he was elected as an MP. A year later Farage declined state funded protection. Of course, with state protection comes scrutiny of where you go and who you meet up with.

I started by wondering - after Jenrick’s car-crash stand-in appearance for James O’Brien, why Reform puts this hapless guy out there to speak on its behalf. His assertions appear shrill and unconvincing, and when his interviewer starts to raise doubts, he hastily and loudly talks over them 1/6

survived public life for so long. Then it hits you! Finally, finally, journalists have started to ask Reform awkward questions! The press is littered with disastrous Reform appearances, statements or ‘policy’ announcements which tend to backfire spectacularly. 5/6

His background and character would seem to any respectable political observer to be a red flag against exposure to the press, what with his illegal and corrupt concession to porn baron Richard Desmond at the expense of the people of Tower Hamlets, his unnecessarily cruel act in spoiling the 2/6

Migration - in a very exposed part of a very exposed country - is not an issue rammed down the public throat, screamed about on newspaper front pages. No doubt it is an issue, but the point is it is not being made to dominate the daily life of ordinary people.

If I go to, say, Hull, or Newcastle or even Liverpool, I can say virtual none of these things. And no disrespect is meant towards those towns, because everywhere is the same - I even saw it in Cambridge, the reputedly most prosperous of our cities. What. On. Earth. Has. Happened. To. This. Country?

The child abuse scandal has been brought up by unhinged right wingers and amplified by lightweight Tory ministers who should know better but it seems to the rest of us that the current Labour government has done more in 6 months than the stories could be bothered to in 14 years
