🥁Fans of @quarto.org: We have updated our template package at github.com/simonreif/ze.... It now has a cleaner structure, no LaTeX is needed in the qmd documents and we did a lot of bug fixes. For the cool kids, there is now also an AGENTS MD file that helps your AGENT to agent. 🤖🦶

🦶We made a thing! An unbranded version of the @quarto.org templates we use for our empirical research projects (Slides, Papers, Project setup) in R or Python is available here: github.com/simonreif/ze... 🥂It's called zewwwwEcon since it is the version for the www of our internal zewEcon package 🤷‍♂️

I used to teach rent control as an example in my intro to econ class...I wish I had such a detailed overview back then...

Trying to somehow relate this to academia 🫣

the last 20% to get a product shipped and successful is as difficult as ever this is where 99% of programmers have always fallen off the first 80% is a lot easier and so we're seeing more abandoned projects than ever

One of my empirical-work econ takes is that I think academia should be *more* open to publishing work based on best-we-can-do weak data, as long as there's really no other way to address the question and that work is very clear about what it can and can't actually say.

Reading scientific papers is like...solve two CAPTCHAS s.t. Cloudflare has made sure that you are really a human, see that article is behind paywall, 2FA in the university network, Cloudflare again, nope, still no access... But good that the bots from SciHub are better than me...

It's quite funny actually when you realize that just this weekend alone a substantial amount of anthropic tokens will be burnt by an armada of tech bros convinced that talking to an AI echochamber will make them find a solution to the Strait of Hormuz situation in 48h.

Holy crap. Subjects who got chemo in the morning reduced risk of disease progressing by a whopping 60%. Super simple intervention, huge result. I hope the finding holds up.

I took three trains to get to the HESG in York and then three trains + one plane to get back home. Everything was on time 😳 I fear all my karma for this year was used up 😩
