Same for Canada: "Government failures created environments in care settings in which Covid could spread like wildfire, an inquiry report says Ministers' claims of there being a "protective ring" around care homes at the start of Covid were unfounded, the report says" www.bbc.com/news/live/cm...

"Government failures allowed Covid to 'spread like wildfire' in care homes, inquiry says 20 October 2026" Written in the past tense as if lessons were learned, guidance has changed, and Covid is still not spreading like wildfire.

As a Canadian, although our government still recommends precautions, they don’t do it out loud. You have to search for it. There are no national (or provincial) strategies here. Not even in healthcare.

Regular reminder that when you go to things while sick, you are giving those germs to people with autoimmune disorders, you’re passing them to someone’s newborn, to someone’s elderly parents. It’s “just a cold” to you but it can and does severely impact countless people.

I am b e g g i n g people to mask up at major cons, *especially* ones with 5-digit crowd sizes!! Lightbox this weekend was absolutely ravaged; I’m hearing of SO many attendees and exhibitors who got sick from doing the show this year!! Please stay safe out there! 🙏 🙏

We really need to start talking about the need for criminal prosecutions of public health and infection control leaders spreading misinformation about life critical respiratory protections. They are no different than those spreading anti-vaccine misinformation and must be treated accordingly.

The IDU is an international syndicate for far-right authoritarians, and Canada’s Conservative Party is actively aligned with it. Keeping membership in this organization is a direct betrayal of democratic values. An editorial by @taylornoakes.com.

Look, we tried to tell them. Don’t blame this one on the Greens for being a home for folks who became disillusioned with the corporate centre-right NDP Eby represented. (My concerns in 2023 were over Henry’s refusal to follow the best science on COVID as an airborne disease among other things).

In the back of the drawer I found the watch that I lost at the start of the pandemic, and so I kept digging and so I kept digging to see if I could find the other things that I lost at the start of the pandemic, but (alas) my faith in other people wasn’t in there.

An honest society would acknowledge that losing caregivers, teachers, community members, friends, health security, and trust in our political and social institutions would have a far greater impact on children’s mental health than a few months of school closures.
