Look, we tried to tell them. Don’t blame this one on the Greens for being a home for folks who became disillusioned with the corporate centre-right NDP Eby represented. (My concerns in 2023 were over Henry’s refusal to follow the best science on COVID as an airborne disease among other things).

I actually don’t believe in colonial partisan politics because of the skullduggery, immaturity, and ego that shapes all euro-American politicking. But the BC Greens at the very least offered a vision beyond oligarchy, environmental destruction, and cynical liberal centrism. Will NDP learn?

Well I’m off to read a book about the mathematics of machine learning because I’m sick of everyone telling me the best way to save the fish is to rely on tech to model them and not like, just freaking stopping the capitalist destruction of their habitats and refusing the related hustle that is AI.

Ps: if math could save fish it already would have. Turning them into numbers is one of the great tricks of western science that robs us of remembering that fish are relatives and ancestors first, objects of slippery measurement second.

Perhaps being an Alberta born+raised lefty, the thing I had to learn at a young age is: you have to fight like hell to build a community that actually cares for everyone no matter who is in power because electoral politics was always designed for the ruling elite. It‘s a luxury to give up.

Never let them limit our imagination of what living in actual co-constitution, respect, and integrity can look like on this earth. If the fish can invent bones from a cornucopia of proteins and chemicals, surely we can build communities we dream of. 🐟🐟🐟

Remember when we wanted Anjali Appadurai to lead the NDP + party brass said heck no & installed Eby and that alone was the first dire warning. Anyway. Yeah. me too. This was Eby’s election to lose & provincial NDP across the country are that unreliable oil guzzling ex you shouldn’t trust.

“Just one more election, baby. I promise I won’t sell out to oil and gas, big tech, mining, forestry, developers, energy companies, populist anti-Indigenous movements, and myriad other bad actors. I swear that was the last time I bald face lie to you!” 🤷

The weirdest mystery in my life is that an award-winning American scholar and his wife (who I have never met) appear to use my personal email account as their throwaway address for increasingly random internet purchases and signups. Intentionally? Unintentionally? Who knows. Why? How? What for?

Joe, who handily won, was touted by some for his work the mining sector & in corporate social responsibility, so I have a feeling the public may have some questions about his experiences as CEO of this company from ~2013-2019. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/... @thetyee.ca @thenarwhal.ca 5/5

After 12 years with the same Director, Area E (where I live) saw its first real race since 2014. Three candidates stood for election: local accountant Peter Njenga, massage therapist Paul Stephen, and former mining executive & previous Area E alternate Joe Ringwald.

There’s not a lot of election coverage of the regional District of Nanaimo so here’s an update. Longtime Area F director Leanne Salter lost to former Parksville Mayor Chris Burger. Area F is undergoing some big changes including incorporation feasibility work & French Creek School site purchase

fish have existed for ~510 million years, manifested the first fully recognizable three division brain, and some scientists STILL insist they do not feel pain and do not have complex emotions or intelligence. but statistical analysis software dressed up in mythology is automatically sentient?

Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or be able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment. I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this: >>

imagine being able to navigate earth's magnetic fields + forming complex maps that enable you to return your birthplace. Without GPS, without computers, without any tech. Using, possibly, magnetite crystals inside your body. The fish will ALWAYS impress me more than colonial capitalist tech.

One of the key messages I carry is that we don't have to accept any of this. Sometimes I see opposition in the form of "Get in loser, you'll be left behind" and other times it's in the form of "It's all over the place, what do you mean you think you can opt out?" >>

Unrestrained ego is killing the planet. Buddha figured that out 2600 years ago, as have myriad non-western/Indigenous anti-imperial anti-white supremacist anti-patriarchal collectives/societies/peoples. Will we collectively divest from ego/individualism and build together again?

Ego exists everywhere. That's kind of the evil genius of capital, colonialism: it works hard to make us think we want to live in suspended animation. But even with false heuristics of so-called separate space/time/matter/causality & the illusion of individualism, your heart aches for co-constitution

let your squishy fish body and heart come back into co-constitution. You have more collective wisdom towards this than you've been led to believe. The basis of existence is interbeing. Remember this. It is baked into every cell of your body. 🐟

We cannot reconcile to systems of death/destruction. We cannot 'bridge' to the very algorithms destroying everything worth being in relation with on the planet. Deloria, Jr. wrote in 1979 that the quantum revolution was the 'west' catching up to the rest. Let them divest from ego & enter interbeing.

The basis of the universe is the inseparability of everything. Everything is entangled, co-constituted, inter-is. The sooner we build our societies around this material, metaphysical, existential reality, the sooner we can actually exist collectively with everything that sustains us. That's the call

River Barad calls this the 'inseparability' of everything. Thich Nhat Hanh called it interbeing. Kim TallBear reminds us we exist in co-constitution. This goes beyond relativity between colonial capitalist systems & non-extractive societies. It's an invitation for Empire/Capital/Extraction to end.

regarding frauds who speak on behalf of Indigenous peoples at the UN level: "Because the U.N. system relies heavily on NGO credentials and self-identification, it inadvertently creates a pathway to undeserved international legitimacy." Grist asked the major funders who supported the Carrizo/Comecrudo how they vetted Mancias and the tribe. Several said philanthropists had no business questioning Indigenous identity. Others said funding decisions turned on the tribe's actions, not its ancestral claims.

Mancias' case reveals an unofficial "shadow" recognition system, one in which environmental nonprofits, journalists, and international human rights bodies support unrecognized, and unverified, individuals and groups in the fight against climate change.

Agreed to an interview with a journalist and when I showed up on the Zoom he asked if he could record for his notes (I said sure) and then WITHOUT asking he fired up his AI note taking agent (otter-ai) as a third Zoom participant and I did the interview anyway but wow it felt gross
